Thanks for the superb information and research Flecc. I've added a News article to the main site with a link to your article and also added a link to this discussion thread. cheers Russ.

    Watt difference does it make?

My previous electric bike (Cyclone) was a little like that, at only 200W and 24v. I quite like the term egg-whisk (from AtoB if I recall?) :D It had nowhere near as much initial acceleration as my Torq, more like a gentle push. However once you got going it was surprisingly easy to ride and...

    Where to get Batteries

Hi Andrew, I'll tidy up the FAQ section tomorrow and break it down into smaller sections e.g. Batteries, motors and then the cycles by manufacturer etc.

    Cycling Plus Awards

Great news to see an electric bike win an award especially in a traditional cyclist magazine :D I saw the review earlier in the year of the Torq.

How did you find the Pedelecs site ?

Hi Andrew, I just fixed a weird problem on the forum link whereby it kept adding a second /forum onto the end of the URL so that should be ok now. Which other links were you having problems with ?

    Recommend a bike for touring

Hi VroomVroom and welcome to the forum! That is an interesting challenge you've set yourself there. Here are some things which you may want to consider: 1. Most electric bikes are not very comfortable to pedal without power especially over longer distances. You may find the additional...

    national differences

Here is some information provided to me by the DfT: Due to the UK not fully implementing European law. (At present full implementation of all features of the EC Directive 2002/24/EC is not planned). The rules outlined on the fact sheet attached indicate that at present: An electrically...

    Punctures, a third way

Hi John, the tape and tie-wraps are really just in case something decides to fall off or become loose. I had an instance on my previous electric bike whereby one of the nuts holding the rack came off and the tie wrap was perfect to hold it in place until I got home. The tape will be useful if I...

    Punctures, a third way

Hi John, I back up the excellent advice from Flecc there. It's definitely worth trialling a few wheel tyre/wheel removals in the comfort of your own home (ok, maybe not indoors!) to familiarise yourself with all the tools you'll need and the process that you would follow. I can see nothing...

    national differences

I would imagine they are supplying these bikes for 'off-road' use ! As it stands the Swizzbee would be illegal to ride on the road with the 270W motor. Clearly there is much confusion at the moment as we've all seen in other threads with the UK 200W and Euro 250W limits.

    national differences

I wonder if the Swizzbee in the race was just a standard model? Vita in London are the UK importers but I don't know if they restrict the bikes for our market. I suspect not, I bet they are supplied as they would be in their home country ! Ken from eZee Bike also took part and came third, I...

    national differences

I'd be very surprised if a Swizzbee is able to maintain 50 kph which for us in blighty is 31 mph :D From what I read about the Presteigne Electric Bike event earlier this year where a Swizzbee took part, the Torq and the Swizzbee were hardly ever more than a few tens of metres apart during the...

    Punctures, a third way

Sorry John, no experience of them i'm afraid. I still think the best solution is a pair of Schwalbe Marathon Plus. All I've ever heard is good reports and thousands of miles puncture-free (including 7,000 of my own) !

    Where to get Batteries

Hi Andrew, I'm not the Russ with the PowaByke motors i'm afraid! With regard to the battery threads perhaps we should add some Battery FAQs into the FAQ sub-forum. For the main forum, I think a global index is in order where all the FAQ questions and answers can be indexed to help...

    Tyre Sealant

Green Tyres - isn't there another company in the UK that supplies inner tubes that are solid (i.e. no inflation) and you still use your normal tyre ? Would these still be subject to the same problems?

    Tyre Sealant

Hi Ian, ETA do a cycle breakdown service with puncture cover. I'm going to purchase this in the new year when my commute lengthens just in case I can't do a roadside repair.

    Accident

Hi Gaynor, hope you're on the mend! Agree with the above sentiments, I always release the throttle when I am about to brake and always use both brakes together. You might want to wheel your bike to your local bike shop and get them to look at the brakes for you. I'm a bit useless at setting...

    Market Research Answers?

There is some additional research that has been done on a yearly basis and it can be purchased from the ExtraEnergy site but is pretty expensive (those market reports usually are!) I'll try and find out a bit more about what they report on.

    Punctures, a third way

On my previous Cyclone electric bike the supplied tyres were useless. I quickly installed some Marathon's (not the Plus model) and bought a pair of those tyre liners. I think they cost around £10 from the local bike shop. There are quite a few around from different suppliers.
