    Speed and other cyclists

I was easily passed by a couple of racers on my previous electric bike but i'm not so sure now with the Torq. Quite often i'm hitting 24mph for extended periods on the straights when the weather is calm. One chap recently saw me from quite a way ahead and pedalled furiously to outpace me but I...

Photos of the inside of a hub motor

Does anyone know of any sites that show the insides of a hub motor? I would like to add a section on the main site for the technical side of electric bikes i.e how the motors work etc.

    Cycling Etiquette

I have the only set of traffic lights on my commute located several hundred yards from the house. Quite often I have to pull away slower than I'm able to in order to stop me being squished between a car behind me who is trying to get past before the queue on the opposite side starts to pull away!

Electric Bike law and the Torq

That's a very important point there!! I wonder if releasing the throttle so no power is being applied and then flicking the switch would be ok?

    Cycling Etiquette

I don't think it is limited to cyclists, if car drivers had the chance, I'm sure they would also try and jostle for pole position! It is annoying though and unfortunately seems to be the general atttiude of many people on the road these days. Living in a rural area, I don't often come across...

Electric Bike law and the Torq

I asked Tim at 50Cycles this question last month. His reply was: "We already have one customer that added a switch to the limitier to make it easier to turn on or off. The parts warranty will be covered but we will not be responsible for any faulty wiring caused or damage." I'm considering...

    Torq motor wattage

According to the 50Cycles website, the Torq has a 200W motor. However, looking at the updated eZeebike website: http://www.ezeebike.com/products_torq.htm they state it is fitted with a 250W motor. What is even more interesting is it appears there is a U.S. variant outputting 350W - great for...

How many electric bikes do you see out on the roads?

Recently I've started to see a few electric bikes out on the road. Some of them are e-bikes but i've also seen a few of the 'shopper' type bikes. I've yet to see anyone else out on one away from the built up areas. It appears most of the initial buyers are using them for short journeys i.e. to...

Do you leave it locked outside at all?

I have to admit, I wouldn't leave my electric bike anywhere - even with the battery removed. I think as they are 'different' they might draw attention to themselves by either an opportunist thief or some hooligan who decides to 'play around with the wires'. There is a company listed on the...

Electric Bike law and the Torq

Interestingly, from the Swizzbee website: "The swizzbee 50C is the first bike in Europe which has received approval to travel at unlimited speed" Does anyone have any more information on this? It would appear this manufacturer has managed to bend the rules!

eZee Torq owners: What range are you getting from your battery?

I'm finding that I am getting slightly better range by going easy on the bike at the beginning of the journey. I stick to <= 18mph (3/4 throttle) for the first mile or so and on the return journey also making sure that the battery indicator stays on green during this time. Having said all...

eZee Torq owners: What range are you getting from your battery?

I'm currently commuting around 19 miles a day (round trip) on my Torq. At the moment i'm able to charge the battery only once a day although sometimes the red light starts to appear in the last mile or so of my journey so I guess i'm getting around 20 miles on a charge (give or take a bit of...

Electric Bike law and the Torq

As per the DfT factsheet entitled, "Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles (EAPCs) in Great Britain": "The electric motor must not be able to propel the machine when it is travelling at more than 15mph." So from this we can deduce that it is within the law to exceed this speed as long as the motor...
