Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !

As the title says, Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year ! I'm sure 2007 will bring lots of exciting new developments to the electric bike industry and I hope this site will continue to be an exciting place for owners and would-be owners to discuss their electric bikes. Since going live at the end...

How many electric bikes do you see out on the roads?

Confidence will come in time Gaynor! Something I've found highly irritating this week in the car and on the bike is other drivers who put their rear foglights on at the slightest hint of fog !! Even in built up areas, where cars are nose to tail, they still keep them on. /Rant off :D

Please step forward, Is your bike legal ?

Hi Beeps, do you have specific concerns with your own electric bike ? All the major brands discussed here on the forum that have been purchased from UK retailers are supplied legal on our roads although I don't have specific knowledge of the Whirlwind bike you have (other than the...

    Bought Urban Mover UM36

A little while back the Gadget Show on Channel 5 had a brief review of the Urban Mover. Unfortunately for those that missed it, the show hasn't been repeated this series. However, the Urban Mover site has the clip. If you want to view it, click here cheers Russ.

Please step forward, Is your bike legal ?

Something that I would imagine is in the 'grey' area is the subject of lighting. I am riding with two HID lights on the front with an extremely bright 3W Dinotte light on the rear (set to flashing) and a Cateye TD-L1000 set to steady. In Germany I know HID bike lights are not legal on the road...

    Batteries and cold weather (brrrr)

Don't forget to add a couple of paddles for when the sea level rises :D I've noticed my Li-ion does not like this very cold weather much. Maybe for persistent extreme weather we need a heated insulation jacket for the battery!

    Li ion charge

Flecc, would you expect any degredation to be present in the SLA battery given its age (even if sold as new) ?

Off topic - not electric but interesting all the same

If it is 65dB at 7.5m I wonder what it is at 1m i.e. while sat on the thing !

Off topic - not electric but interesting all the same

Looks interesting, the apperance reminds me of the TidalForce. Having a petrol engine definitely puts it into the motorcycle class in the UK and I can't imagine it getting insured etc..Plus you'd get the book thrown at you if caught riding one without it. Is "65 dB at a distance of 7.5m" high...

From the ashes of the Djavelo rises the Schwinn Continental !

Hi folks, have received an update from Pacific Cycle regarding the different power options: "...various wattages are restricted by a controller built into to the housing. This cannot be adjusted by the consumer." So on the face of it, it looks like we don't have an 'off-road' option.

    Winter tips?

Hi John, yes that is an excellent site. I came across it last year when searching for clothing. I have to admit I have a strange desire to be able to ride in those conditions

    More on lights . . .

Just noticed in the latest issue they are now providing the magazine online which is excellent news. This way we can easily access old issues quickly without having to wait for a paper copy to arrive in the post.

Have you had a cycling accident?

Only one so far (touch wood!). Riding home from work, having a chat with another cyclist who was most intrigued by my electric bike (and also got his ego back when he realised how I could pass him so quickly!) We parted ways and as I approached a mini-roundabout where I turn right, I looked...

    Preferences

Folder - I'd go for 20" again for the stability and comfort. To go truly portable is best left to the Brompton crowd especially with the kind of journeys they are used for. MTB - my previous electric bike (Cyclone) was MTB style with front and rear suspension. While it was heavy (and obviously...

How many electric bikes do you see out on the roads?

Yesterday I had to use the car for work and on the way home I was just leaving a village and saw a chap moving rather swiftly. It was only when I passed him that I recognised the bike - a Torq!

    Punctureseal

I have a couple of the combined CO2/Slime cannisters in my panniers ready for emergencies. Thankfully, I've never had to use them due to the Marathon tyres!

    Throwing Things

This is where you need HID lights. People think they are motorbikes and get out of the way sharpish :D

    What's the fastest you've been ?

On a good day my Torq will hit 22mph on it's on steam. I regularly cruise between 22-24mph. Fastest so far is 32mph down a slight hill also but I was pedalling pretty furiously ! The bike felt pretty solid at that speed though. I can only dream of being able to cruise at 30 mph :D

    Punctureseal

I laid my bike upside down on the grass with a towel between them. As long as you're not bashing down hard on the bike it shouldn't cause any damage. Plus another thumbs up for the Marathon Plus from me. Superb performance - no punctures in 7,000 miles (touch wood!)
