    Bar Ends

I have them on my un-powered bike, and I like them. In addition to previously mentioned benefits it gives you the option to stretch out when climbing.

    Handlebars

Thanks for posting a working link. Don't know why mine was broken. I blame it on me working away in the arse end of nowhere peninsula, SW Scotland.

    Gsm vs bbs01

Yes, just plug it in between battery and controller. The information is stored in the device, so you don't need it on the handlebars. IIRC the information stored is: Volts min Amps max Watts max Wh total Ah total You only need to do the wiring mods if you want to on the handlebars.

    Handlebars

On one of my bikes I have a pair of these: URL: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=371475174779&alt=web If you search eBay for 'North Road' other options are available. I have some similar, but higher on my cruiser.

What's the Smart e-bike really like...

I heard them called "Nike Air Jerusalems" the other day. Made me laugh.

18650 battery box for front light

I'm a big fan of the humble 18650. I obtained a whole load from old laptop batteries and made a few packs up for various jobs. 4 in a old battery drill pack, 4 in my DAB radio, 4 in my mega torch (with 6 Cree T6's), 3 in an old handheld marine VHF, singles in those little phone chargers, and a...

    New tyres. Cool or weird?

Err, no. 38mm is 1.5". Fat franks are 2.35", which is about 60mm. However, clearance can be problem on smaller bikes. It's normally the rear that's worst. Most mountain bikes will be fine though.

What advance in bicycle technology has impressed you the most?

I may have spotted what went wrong with them. [emoji6] Cwah, 1.7kW? If they only ran for 5 minutes it'd be quite impressive!

    New tyres. Cool or weird?

I'm with you on that. Other than an Ill advised dalliance with very dark grey, my last 6 cars have been black.

Noooooo! What have you done! Those bikes are a load of...... Only kidding, I'm sure you'll be happy with it. [emoji2]

    Right, off they come.

Ultimately I'm putting them on this:

Is anyone offering an e-bike with type approval and throttle?

Funny, I was just discussing something similar on another thread, where I suggested that an enterprising individual could probably sell model specific, plug n play throttles on eBay. It's my guess (and it is just a guess) that many manufacturers will leave the throttle connector on the controller.

    New tyres. Cool or weird?

That's pretty much what my wife said. My son (7) was less tactful and continues to be vociferously in the 'not cool' camp.

    New tyres. Cool or weird?

Thanks for the kind words. Its rare that anything I do appeals to the opposite sex. These tires are pretty similar to BA's in most respects. They just look a bit different. I know this because I fitted BA's to friends bike last week. Grip on the road is plenty. I've probably done 3000 miles...

    New tyres. Cool or weird?

I bought these Fat Frank's for my electric cruiser, which already has black FF's on. I love the way they ride, so I thought I'd bung them on my old analogue MTB for a test. I can't decide if they look good, weird, eccentric or stupid. All opinions are welcome (as long as you don't accuse me of...

What should I buy as my first e bike?

Are you seriously suggesting that this bike is suitable for a 14,000 miles per year commute?
  18. Alan Quay

    Is this possible?

Sorry to say this, but its likely beyond economical repair. If it needs a new battery and motor, you are looking at £400 ish, possibly more. You can get a Tesco hopper (or whatever t'other one is called) for not much more.

What should I buy as my first e bike?

25 mile round trip is more like it. I'm not bothered about the throttle thing, as I build my own bikes and will continue to do as I please after the change. My suspicion is that most bikes will still have the connectors for the throttle, and that some enterprising individual will start selling...
