Last yesterday's Commons DEbate on e-bike regulations

i think pedelec power output should be restricted on the basis of whether the bike can take Eric Pickles up a 40% hill at 15mph

    Hub Motor Efficiency

many thanks, without triggering any sectarian conlict, a thing that - hypothetically - appealed about hub motos is possible simplicity - separating physical an electrica input - dragging a 100kg trailer though thick sand with a crank drive creates to my mind a whole set of strains on a drive...

    Hub Motor Efficiency

i'm planning to build a hub motored pedelec with a low range transfer - so to speak: hobbyking sells lipo relatoively cheaply - could one use a bpm 500w - say for argument sake 180rpm - use around 12S for lugging through sand on beaches around isle de oleronne at around 6mph - but then when one...

Convert a Kona Cinder Cone to an electric bike; please help!

fascinating, so if one were to build a bike for lugging a heavy (100kg) camping trailer on muddy/sandy footpaths in rural france a hub motor would be a no-no? i was hoping to do this on teh cheap running low speed (5 to 10 mph mostly) but with considerable amps (assistance). (incidentally - and...

    Tow bar bike carriers

i use a thule easybase - it doesnt have an easytilt function (you know step on a lever and tilt it forward to open the hatch of the car) and most definitely isnt as simple to load as d8veh's, but it's very rugged and has survived numerous (very severe) overloadings and (violent) dings and...

    Cycling "midlife" crisis

it's a pleasure, a good thing about bromptons are that they inspire a kind of relaxed type of unstressful cycling, if you're feeling very flush there is a company in Scotland called kinetics run by a guy called ben who does a rohloff conversion for bromptons with deeply impressive levels of...

    Cycling "midlife" crisis

it's never a bad idea to get a Brompton, it's one object where the question "what to do with it" can create indefinite numbers of answers (after a few years of owning one I'd feel amputated if I didn't have mine), welcome back, I always find habituation is a big part of things - a few months...

    Tyre issue

apologies for stating the very obvious, but the "well" in the rim is the key, squeeze the wire of the tyre on the opposite side completely into the deepest bit of the well and even a complete weed like me can squeeze a marathon plus on

Bike Europe draws attention to illegal tuning kits

i was cycling late home last night - slowly because it was freezing, anything over 12 mph felt it could cause frostbite. however, it was great to have more than nett 250W for bursts up very hills. i think pedelec power works best when similar to a car's: its great to have up to a kilowatt for...

Advice for BPM2 500w Motor Needed

apologies, that's at 12S(44V), but i'd be more inclined to go with 12sh at 36V given that one might need the extra amps more in a cargo carrying role

Advice for BPM2 500w Motor Needed

    IMHO i'd go with a S12SH rather than S12S because it gives 35A (around 1550W) at 36V

    Caraok electric one wheel bicycle

if they made the gyro much stronger and gave it a much more robust tyre it could have a military application - as transport for special forces. the psychological impact of a section of marines approachinig on caraoks could be devastating.

Advice for BPM2 500w Motor Needed

for what its worth, i have a friend who built a 500W BPM in a 20 wheel bicycly (i think the 340RPM one but may be wrong) - anyway, he bought it from BMS battery for something like £200 with an S12SH controller and 12S lipos (44V) sourced rather cheaply i think from hobbyking. I'm somewhere...

Which one to sell and which one to keep?

well, I see maguras and pretty good quality lights, unless the battery's knackered or you have very little space, a decent backup bike can be a very handy thing

    Oxydrive kits

yes, the truth is that i only did it because it's what i had (if i had a dual suspension 29er on nice fat big apples, i'd most certainly have gone for it instead!), it's not ideal ito english roads and potholes and racing bikes dont usually have disc brakes (which i also find very preferable)
