    Torq double battery arrangement

Nice work James, I'll probaby add a second battery to mine at some stage. At present I carry a spare on long rides but usually only use it for a short distance near the end so am looking towards a smaller lighter additional battery, probably using 4.5Ah C size NiMh cells. I will probably use a...

    Delivery Bike

A photo of the bike I believe this may well be the bike I saw. http://www.hembrow.eu/P_C_Sandwich2.jpg The basket was not on the trailer but everything else is as I remember it, including the aluminium box just behind the front basket. The picture is on the website of the basket maker who...

    Battery fire!

To try to put the whole thing into perspective, an aquantence of mine is a firefighter and while they don't always know the cause of the fires they are called to he is not aware of any fires caused by batteries. By contrast he has lost count of the number of washine machine and tumble drier...

Solar power, any tinkerers out there?

I somehow missed this thread but a thread detailing my last years efforts at solar charging is here. http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/492-solar-charger.html Unfortunately something went horribly wrong with last years summer and so the equipment had little use and remains...

    Delivery Bike

The bike itself was obviously a commercially made work bike with an electric conversion, the bike had a longish wheelbase but without the load platform of the 8freight, twin crossbars, the lower being about 9" below the upper with the advertising board between them, wheels I think were 24", rear...

    Delivery Bike

I saw an interesting machine in Nottingham city centre today, a rugged looking delivery bike with twin crossbars supporting an advertising board for "Pickwicks Sandwich Bar", outside of which it was parked with total immunity from the parking attendants. In the front wheel was a chunky looking...

    Battery fire!

Agreed. Be safe with all types of battery, but absolutely no need for panic or alarm (Other than the smoke detecting type)

    Battery fire!

In order to be legally sold in the EU, ready-made battery packs & chargers whether for a mobile phone, laptop computer, electric bike bike or whatever have to be certified by an independent approval body in order that they may carry a CE mark of compliance. Part of the approval process involves...

    team hybrid + opti

With the cheapest model retailing at $5,495 in the US it's going to be pretty expensive, even with a favourable exchange rate. Also with the lowest powered model having a continous motor rating of 400W, 28mph no brake cut-outs and no pedelec mode it's also going to need considerable modification...

    My first puncture!

Not just on e-bikes, I was casually looking at MTBs in Halfords and noticed that many have fatter tyres than some motorcycles I have owned, but on a 22mm wide rim. The thought of pedaling with those tyres made my legs ache, but that wasn't as bad as the thought of cornering at speed on tarmac.

    Flecc Breaks the 5,000 Barrier!

At an earlier milestone of Fleccs I worked out that the total number or keystrokes to write the posts at the time would most likely have been in excess of one million. It hurts my brain to think what that number might now be. Flecc did very quitely mention he'd exceeded 5000 in another thread...

    Agattu tyre inflating

I too had bikes as kid with Woods valves, it was very much the English standard and are in fact known in the USA as "English valves". Presta valves are the only valves a serious racing cyclist would use, the large hole required by a Schrader valve would seriously weaken the ultra lightweight...

    CE_DELUXE information & help required

According to the info given on the website the large meters are simply a speedometer, which is why they give high readings going downhill. The smaller lower central meter is the battery charge indicator (fuel gauge) but like all of its type will only give an approximate indication.

    Still No Stills

I'd have no qualms about buying one without seeing a picture, pictures of it's sisters give a pretty good indication of it's appearance. And, unlike a house it's fully covered by the distance selling regulations so can be sent back for a full refund if you don't like it.

    Winter Maintenance

Chain oiling is probably the most controversial subject in cycling (along with helmets). Chains actually cost a lot less than some of devices and lubricants intended to prolong their life, so I take the view that an occasional lube with 3 in 1, WD40, dragons blood or whatever, along with timely...

    the bike of tomorrow

The large wheel of a penny-farthing would probably give a surprisingly smooth ride for those brave enough to try.. not me though, I don't function well at heights. It would be interesting to know how heavy and flexible the old frames were as they obviously were not made from the steel alloys of...

    open frame versus diamond frame

My own belief is that thieves will take whatever is easiest, usually picking on the bike with the weakest lock, only when faced with a row of different bikes with similar locks will they become selective. I don't think most have the intelligence to differentiate between different bike types...
