I think he might have wanted to let this go by unnoticed, but it is an amazing achievement. Well done Fleccie, that is almost a third of all posts submitted :D I think you might just be getting the hang of it:rolleyes:
Only 2 other prolific contributors have exceeded 1,000 posts to date, Ian and Coops;)

At an earlier milestone of Fleccs I worked out that the total number or keystrokes to write the posts at the time would most likely have been in excess of one million. It hurts my brain to think what that number might now be.

Flecc did very quitely mention he'd exceeded 5000 in another thread, yesterday I think.

Congratulations Flecc, and I bet you've never had any typing training either.

Thanks John.

Having made the very first post to open Russ's forum, I did have the advantage of a head start. ;)

That's the end of the 1000 markers, next point of note 10,000. The rate will continue to drop off though, there's many more helpers now answering the questions, so less need for me to contribute.

Actually I missed the 5000th, twigging at 5002!

No typing training of any sort, as evidenced by two very short forefingers. :D

Excuse me Mr.Flecc:mad: Don't you start slacking now!

Congratulations Flecc. 5000 postings is a fantastic achievement. What amazes me is not just the quantity, but the quality of every one!

Actually this entire forum is quite outstanding. I've never come across such a lively, friendly, knowledgeable, amusing, lucid...(etc etc)...forum in relation to any of my other interests. And at the centre of it all is Flecc - on whose every word I've been hanging for many months now. (And I've got the Agattu with cateye mirrors and Mirage panniers to prove it!)

You may blush now.:)

That was true in the first few weeks of the forum, when I was the only helper and just had to tackle everything.

These days there's people better placed than me to answer many questions, so I'm pleased to leave it to them. For examples, I never get involved in lighting since I don't ride after dark, and with others like Beeps knowing a lot about many SLA bikes which I've always avoided, those threads are best left.

I sometimes butt in with a "holding" answer where I'd rather not, for example with a new member's question, since there's nothing worse for a new member than feeling ignored. That's why you'll see so many greetings from me to new members in the "introduce yourself" thread, ensuring theres no possibility of perceiving hostility.

Add another big thanks from me too! As Flecc said he was the first contributor to the forum and has been instrumental in getting initial traffic to the site and making it what it is today!

Now, where did I put that carriage clock :D

Now that's an idea, clockwork powered bikes ;) No batteries to worry about, very very green, but might need a very very very big key:eek:

Actually clockwork might be practical, it's one of the simplest ways of adding regeneration to a bike, winding the spring up going downhill, then storing the energy for when it's needed.

Well done flecc - I lookforward to reading your next 5000 posts - keep up the good work.

"It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country
best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.
Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor
car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate
remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by
riding a bicycle."

Thanks Footie and Tom.

The test riding continues, but the weather isn't helping, todays icy winds across the top of the Downs biting hard. The feeling is just returning to my frozen fingers after coming in, and once I'm back up to temperature and the bike's recharged, off out again for today's session two. Brrrrr. :(

That's a slightly boring way of providing clockwork flecc. I've long imagined a bike with a large cartoon style key sticking out from one side. At intervals you get off and strain with both arms to wind it up, then do another few miles. Come to think of it your solution might be more practical! Happy 5000th birthday:)

Thanks Bob. :)

I've sometimes pictured a giant clock spring alongside the rear wheel, which would cause pedestrians no end of amusement. The kids'd love it. :D

Maybe a better regen solution is the modern ultra high speed small flywheel with centre concentrated weight. Those are much lighter for a given energy than the traditional rim disposed weight type.

Thanks for your kind words Kenny, much appreciated.

Online life has been difficult of late, my broadband ISP's service :)rolleyes: ) in my neck of the woods leaving me repeatedly on dial-up only. Currently looks as though it's going to be dial-up only for the weekend again.
