    Long commute question

Well, not being a smoker I am not bothered either way, except to say that I never found any problem with second hand smoke but I do with perfume. Why do you want to defend perfume wearers and deny me my right to clean air?

    Speedometer

"measure speed, distance, riding time calorie counter and etc which what any serious bicyclist or fitness fanatic needs." ALL that I want is a speedometer. Why do manufacturers insist on adding all these confusing options? In practice they are difficult to use because the device is not user...

    Long commute question

How do you know? Anyway, the argument about second hand smoke was never clear. So perfume could be bad.

    Long commute question

I do not have asthma, but I do sneeze repeatedly if any perfume is about. They banned tobacco smoke, can we now please ban perfume?

How about £3,000 to give up your car for an ebike?

Let it be understood. No governments have any money at all. All they have is a tax base. We are the people who own the money and the government takes it from us to pay for whatever hairbrained schemes tickle their fancy at any particular time. If you want the government to find 15 Trillion to...

How about £3,000 to give up your car for an ebike?

The problem is that I don't see any of the 'Old clunkers' that you describe about. The MOT emissions test is quite stringent and any really old cars still about are probably quite OK. The answer is to remove cars full stop. Until we can generate electricity cleanly and in sufficient quantities...

    Ebco m45 help please

No. If you wanted to record TV you had to have a system, with an ebike it is a matter of 'What you ain't got don't need no fixin.'

    Ebco m45 help please

My point is that CANBUS is not needed on an ebike. Why fit it? I know that we have some cycling zealots on this forum who like to pretend that they are riding an ordinary pedal cycle, but for most of us, including many ex motor cyclists, the simple Chinese ebike answers best of all.

    Ebco m45 help please

To my mind, dumping CANBUS etc. is THE way forward. There is no shame in realising that a new technology does not suit the users. History is full of 'Good Ideas' that fell by the wayside. Basically, unless it is needed, do not add unnecessary complexity. (That is unless you want to make huge...

    Astra Zenaca Jab.

When I was young in the 1940-50s, Labour were a hard headed, logical pragmatic party with plenty of MPs with dirt under their finger nails. They were striving for, housing, jobs, education and health. They won all those battles. Then, with very little left to achieve, the left took a wrong...

    Astra Zenaca Jab.

Let's get real. If we had had a Labour Government they would still be squabbling over Brexit. They would be displaying hand wringing anguish over the fact that BAME people have a higher death rate than whites and squandering our tax pounds to make Labour MPs feel better about it. They would...

Kalkhoff Tasman Impulse 8 speed Nexus like Trigger's broom in Fools & Horses

Agree. My Tonaro is now 10 years old. Has had new gears, tyres brakes and various saddles until I found one that suited me. It has had one replacement engine/gear box which cost £296 delivered to my door, and two new batteries (re-celled by Jimmy). Total cost probably about £2,000 over the...

    Roundabout grumble about car drivers

This is a Belgian roundabout with cycle lane and give way red markings for motor vehicles. It is actually the infamous 'Hellfire Corner' of First World War renown.

    WhaTT for now

Once again a triumph of "DESIGN" and feelz over sensible, logical, practical pragmatism.

    WhaTT for now

But surely that is only in bottom gear. Let's face it, if you gear the motor down enough you can produce huge torque. I once got a car which would not start up a short but steep rise by removing the plugs and winding it on the starter motor. This system does not have gears and so the whole...

    Roundabout grumble about car drivers

As I understand it, a vehicle only gets precedence once it has crossed the stop line and is on the roundabout. However, virtually all motorists ignore this rule and blithely sail on relying on vehicles waiting to enter 'downstream' to give way. I saw a crash locally where a car approached the...

    New one on me

That downhill reminds me of another horrible thing that happened to me. Back about 1986 for some reason or other I had to go along a country lane very similar to yours which is near my house and has a glorious downhill run. Not having a bike at the time I borrowed my 10 year old son's Grifter...
