    Ghost Mtb

They are distributed in the UK by a company called Hotlines, who are owned by Chain Reaction Cycles. As such lots of bikes shops don't like buying bikes / components from the company that is on the other hand trying to destroy them, so they aren't as well represented in the UK as some of the...

    Bulls electric bikes

Yes, but with Bosch it is an identical motor, its just the fact that by removing the speed limit you automatically give it the higher nominal power output. The power they are capable of is a different number to the nominal power. Other brands might use different motors for their sPedelecs...

That's a Bosch fact, doesn't mean its the same for all motors / brands.

I was thinking more like this: http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest-news/stalled-motorcycle-causes-huge-crash-red-hook-criterium-223420 Could happen, motor jams or chain gets stuck, or something pings up and gets stuck in your front wheel and your forced to use your super efficient disc...

Yes, that's all true - but you have to realise that their relaxed nature and lack of concern will literally fly out of the window as soon as one of them has to have a month off work because of accident involving you / your bike. It might not even be them giving a * about it, but their no win no...

I fully appreciate all that, as I race road bikes too, so I know how fast it is. So my question is do any of the people you're riding with, or the people or organise the events / club runs you're riding in know that you're riding what is legally classed as a moped with no tax or insurance? I...

Thats a very ignorant assessment of the actual issue, and I'd expect more of you ;) no ones arguing they are doing more damage, they only put out the power of a very powerful rider. The issue is simply. THEY CAN'T LEGALLY BE USED THERE. So, if there is an accident or any kind of issue...

    Whoosh bikes and the law

Yes, sorry was assuming that Type Approval hadn't been gained, I assumed this for 2 reasons, 1) its impossible to get currently, and 2) I suspect lots of people won't bother.

Well off-road bikes aren't illegal, but the bikes you're speaking about are illegal off and on-road, so you need a better term so people don't think its ok to use the bikes offroad. Here's a letter I wrote last year which I hope explains my point of view clearly for you...

    Whoosh bikes and the law

don't grandfather rights work the otherway round though? So in the case of a bike with a throttle being involved in an accident, wouldn't the rider have to prove they have the rights, not the other way round? They aren't automatically given. So if you bought a bike that is essentially...

offroad is irrelevant. sPedelecs / dongles / over 250w kits etc etc are illegal on AND offroad. if you're going to have strong views on this, which by the way I / we support. Please make sure you express them correctly, otherwise it does somewhat undermine the good practice you are preaching.

please please please stop calling them offroad... offroad is actually worse for everyone. onroad the risk of it effecting anyone other than the individual riding the bike and the person who sold it to them is minimal. if people use their dongle'd and sPedelec bikes offroad it has the potential...

They are only interested in the advertising, and wouldn't even promote anything that is anti the firms who are benefiting from this. Its short sighted, selfish, irresponsible etc etc. But its business, so some people seem prepared to accept it. We however stopped advertising, so they lost our...

I don't think anyone who is anti the sPedelecs and Dongles, thinks its about the speed do they? I'm sure many would be in favour of them if they could be used legally, the problem is that they can't be and that's for a number or reasons that I for one agree with. The fact that people are using...

I ride these tracks a lot, and as an ex World Cup level DH racer I can get up to pretty good speed....BUT as has been mentioned many many many times before speed IS NOT relevant BECAUSE going fast isn't illegal! riding an illegal ebike up there even at 5 mph puts the rider at risk of lots of...

I'd love to agree with you that it was simply people breaking the law that encouraged the government to change it. However I'm sure you'll appreciate that it simply wasn't the case. In that case you had the cycle & motorcycle industry lobbying for it, and the government also in agreement that...

I'd still argue the problem is not related to the speed. If the speed was an issue normal bicycles would be subject to tax / testing and insurance. So the issue must be the power assist... ie the motor. So the world is coming up with a line in the sand... which there needs to be. So...
