Anyone got a Raleigh Motus ?

They are a cube dealer, have been for full 2015 season - just too busy selling bikes to update their website by the looks of things.

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Maybe... the DFT is just trying to stop home build bikes with throttles being legally used on the roads and they only want type approved throttle bikes allowed. Just a thought ;) and this point I'm afraid is lost on me. No one is being denied the use of a throttle!!!! They can buy a moped...

Anyone got a Raleigh Motus ?

Not sure where about in West Yorkshire you are, but Bike Shed in Huddersfield are selling a growing number of eBikes and had quite a few last time I was in. They are a Cube and KTM dealer but have other brands too I believe.

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

What do you think the growing number of eBikes being used on the UK roads with a throttle was doing?? Because it was / is very much pushing into the realms of moped and motobikes as far as the moped and motorbike retailers are concerned. The push by the eBike industry to make 250w legal and...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

You'll never find total agreement within any trade body, as everyone always has a mix of common and individual business interests to consider. However I would suggest that BEBA becoming part of the Bicycle Association is a good move, for pretty much everyone, and I was at the BEBA meeting when...

    Let's keep the throttle!

also should add, the opposition comes not just from the Motorcycle industry... the majority of the big players in the eBike Industry, it also comes from pretty much the entire cycle industry. Who are working very very hard on access rights for cycles and see ebikes with throttles as mopeds...

    Let's keep the throttle!

Yes, thats correct.... the EPAC definition... (A for assist) by very definition excludes the use of a throttle as a means of solely powering a cycle. And yes, it has no impact on safety, but with any vehicle class definitions its necessary to draw the line somewhere, and despite lots of debate...

    Let's keep the throttle!

Just two quick points / questions. 1) we're talking about PEDELECS... so it was only right that bikes that can be powered by a throttle aren't covered in this category and need their own subclass... which with type approval allows them to be covered within this class. This seems fair enough...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

no... your argument was: "The design speed of say an Oxygen MTB is 25km/h. Derestricting it, doesn't change its design speed, so derestricting it doesn't change it into a moped." So all I'm saying is that... the Oxygen is restricted to 25km/h. The design speed has to be higher than that...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Thats exactly what I'm saying! If the bike has to be RESTRICTED to 25kph, then its design speed is above 25kph by definition. So if you're going to use the design speed arguement, you'll find that pretty much all pedelecs are designed to go above 25kph and then restricted to the legal...

    Let's keep the throttle!

The throttle is being kept though isn't it? But the brands who want to sell them will just need type approval.

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

hmm, slightly the wrong way round there d8veh, even by your own definitiion. The Oxygen has a design speed of ABOVE 25km/h and is then restricted to 25km/h... so by derestricted you're actually allowing it to do its design speed. This is of course true of pretty much all pedelecs, but is an...

Not sure how you can suggest they are that far removed from one another. Even the definition according to wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moped "A moped (/ˈmoʊpɛd/ MOH-ped) is a small motorcycle, generally having a less stringent licensing requirement than motorcycles, or...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

I do see your point... but would you allow a disabled person to attached a rocket pack to a bicycle and ride that down the high street? I don't think the law is trying to restrict a disables person's independence? Just there are certain things that are classed as a bicycle and things that...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Yes, Trex... I've tired quite a few throttle bikes.... I understand all this...and I have pretty good experience of working with a lot of individuals with special physical needs, so I do appreciate this need. Maybe what I'm trying to say, is that if you want/need a throttle on your eBike maybe...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

All valid points.... but I still don't see how these can be considered to be issues that give an argument that Pedelecs should be allowed to essentially unregistered mopeds (based on power, speed assist and throttle - which is a large part of what the cycle and motorbike industry has a problem...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

I agree with lots of your comments, but I'm not sure I get this. If someone wants a throttle and more power.... they are available. Its called a Moped. All you're doing by asking to allow eBikes with throttles and more power is bypassing the laws and regulations around mopeds isn't it...

tuning my bike for more speed

Trex.... you do realise legality is a line in the sand... once you cross that. Everything is illegal. Lines in the sand change with time, and I'm sure the eBike law will continue to evolve. However once you cross that line, you are breaking the law, so there is nothing that is more or less...

Twangman. You specifically did ask the question! You even ended your post with a question mark. So please don't complain when someone responds ;) I fully appreciate this comment, and I do agree everyone is free to make their own choices, and if those choices involve breaking the law -...
