    Brexit, for once some facts.

Where have you seen that hard, honest graft = fair pay? I haven't experienced that in most of my working life. And there is a difference between merit and capability. And you have a strange idea of socialism, there is nothing in socialism which excludes working and earning a fair wage depending...

EBMA files an anti dumping complaint on chinese e-bikes.

I would understand the dumping claims if the European manufacturers made entry level bikes that are in competition with cheap Chinese bikes. They don't. It is they who are in the niche market making small quantities of over priced bikes when the world needs (urgently we are led to believe)...

    40 mile round trip commute - 20mph - help please :)

Do you have the PAS plugged in? Sometimes the controller wants everything plugged in.

    Gocycle GS London Commuter review

Measure the diameter of your tyre. My 20" tyre is in fact 20.5" which is a 1% error in calculating speed. Under EN15194 you have a 10% difference in speed allowed. GPS will most likely be more accurate than your controller at calculating speed.

Advice re new bike with hub gears.

It is a thing of beauty! But the Nuvinci is only really suited to powered riding because it eats up about 15% of the Watts you are feeding it. That is why it gets so hard over 20 mph. Trek in their wisdom also have the +8 derailleur bike... I can pedal my very heavy bike to over 20 mph (about...

Yes It looks like that you bend the wire down into that slot.

Advice re new bike with hub gears.

Hub motors work best within a limited speed range, once you get out of their comfort zone they are a bit of a pain, you can't ride everywhere all the time at 25 km/h... Crank dive motors work best at a certain cadence but you can maintain that cadence at very different speeds depending on the...

    Schwalbe Marathon Plus

I have had Michelins which were also very good but at 1.75" not quite 2" balloon tyre comfortable. They also had puncture protection which worked quite well. If Michelin made balloon tyres with puncture protection and a slight tread pattern (for sand covered roads) and sold them at the same...

    My New Conversion

The thing with the 42 narrow wide is the improved chainline. I am not hostile to the idea of a 38 tooth for a utility bike where you never get to go much over 25 km/h, I think my bike may eventually end up with one. From memory (haven't been there in 40 years) Bristol hills are not Wellington...

    My New Conversion

Typo correction 12-36 above, they do 11-36 too. Trying hard I can climb very steep hills in 42:32, I tried on Wednesday, forgot to change down to the 32... I had a trailer full of junk behind too. I am talking hill over 14%, the kind that are steep to walk up. You will be fine with 42:36...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Read that again, you have a logic problem in that statement. Would that performance be linked to financial services and belonging to the EU?

What chainwheel are you using? There is a 12-36 Suntour 9 speed IIRC.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

An interesting experiment would be all EU nationals living and working in the UK going on strike for 24 hours. Total strike i.e. not only stopping working but not buying anything either. I bet the result would open a few shuttered eyes.

    My New Conversion

Tiagra GS will work from what I have read on forums. I have just fitted the 8 speed Sunrace 11-40 on the trike and it works out of the box with the Altus derailleur. Any long MTB derailleur will do the trick. The wide range cassette has just about made the small chainwheel redundant, I bought...

    TSDZ2 On a single speed

It depends on the width of your gears. I think you may need a wide one for an automatix. Frankly any 6/7/8 speed chain should be strong enough because they have thicker side plates than 9/10/11 speed ones.
