Hi Alan and welcome Congrats on getting it working again :) Yep its gonna be heavy but also hopefully fun:) If you ever do consider upgrading please come back for advice. Some older bikes have brushed motors whereas everything is brushless these days. Which causes a few complications...

Lithium has changed a lot in 8 years. You can get far greater capacity in a single cell these days compared to back then So you need fewer of them to make the same Ah and voltage battery.

I'm going to through another possible option put there.....a booster battery Beg, build, borrow or buy a 2 or 3s battery Cut the main power wire to the controller. Add the booster in series Comes with risks of damaging controller and not always that cheap (if you have a suitable charger...

I broke a really nice set of magura forks with mag lowers. But it was a big old BPM motor and overvolted I did spend ages filing the dropouts by hand so as not to overdo it. I also used torque arms But they were jubilee clip type not bolted on. So prob an installation issue as well as weight...

Tbh that's why I love the alfine 8. Bullet proof and maintenance free Though shimano would disagree with my approach of course. And several members will be disgusted at the lack of maintenance I'm sure!

Around 10k miles and around 3 years My last one went for 7 years and the failure in the shifting mechanism. Inside the actual gear mechanisms were spot on. I bought a new hub for about 70 quid and got my lbs to swap out the internals into the old casing......so save building a new wheel

Do you mean you turn the panel off ? Or set the pas to 0 ? And do you have brake cutouts fitted ?
