Hello What you describe is pretty typical ( normal). The lcd is reading voltage at that moment which can fluctuate . For example, on a hill or in high PAS mode the amp draw can cause the voltage to lower (or sag).

The actual navigation works from the devices inbuilt compass and gps signals. Its only the maps that need a connection. Unless, as has been well covered , you use an app or service that downloads and keeps the maps offline (as in saved on your phone. Hope this helps
