    hi from durham newbie

If you like bosch middrive then also consider Shimano Steps, Yamaha and Brose drives. All four brands have eMTB drives. For lower powered city, trekking ebikes try new Bosch Active Cruise or Cruise Plus, they are meant to be lot quieter than current Bosch or Shimano E6000 drive. There also...

Is an electric bike for me?

For commuter bike, mudguards, pannier rack, lights would be a must. There are few options for drive systems, rear hub, middrive and front hub motors, plus torque and cadence sensing. Most kits and cheaper bikes are cadence sensing. Test ride of few ebikes with different drive systems and frame...

    SRAM EX1 first impressions review

The clutch is essential in muddy conditions also helps stop chain jumping off chainring. I leave it off for road riding as makes gear change slightly easier.

    SRAM EX1 first impressions review

The 40t combined with 14t on CX should be enough for steepest hills. Having derailleur clutch is must with CX drive. Cassettes and chains for 9spd are cheap plus they give better mileage than 10 and 11spd. If you can make it work I'd say you are onto a winner. Hang onto EX1, would be worth...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

Only if you regularly do extended big climbs in max assist. I spend most of my time in eco or tour so it wouldn't bother me. All reviews rate it best motor and extra batteries are about 30% cheaper than bosch.

    SRAM EX1 first impressions review

Before I switched chainguard locking ring on CX to basic locking nut, I had a couple of bad chain suck incidents where chain well and truely jammed up around chainring. Only solution in middle of nowhere was to stand on lower chain. The XT derailleur held up to this abuse very well...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

They stop with overheat alarm if pushed to hard on high assist level but OK after it cools down. Not fatal like CX bearing issues.

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

My wifes Shimano E6000 Steps motor has been reliable (4500kms and counting), better than the 1800km from my 1st bosch cx motor. Haven't read any recent reliability issues with E6000. Better display and controls than Bosch.

Orange 6 E LE Shortest review ever!

One big pluses is only one pair of suspension bearings to service. So Santa cruz are entering eMTB market. Watch youtube video where Santa cruz representative said the eMTB wasn't for them. Kind of frowned on it, came across as purist. Values have funny way of changing when large profits are to...

Advice re new bike with hub gears.

For FS MTB lighter unsprung weight of derailleur is only way to go. You can use IGH but it reduces responsive of suspension.

Advice re new bike with hub gears.

The Woosh bikes in question are hub drive, derailleurs only need to handle human power and not lot of that given electric assist. The 7 spd derailleurs on these bikes, while reliable are definitely at bargain end of range. When it comes to quality shifting you get what you pay for.

Advice re new bike with hub gears.

Typo edited it, I meant to say "Shouldn't need adjusting"

Advice re new bike with hub gears.

Most of ebikes with factory middrives ie bosch shimano that have igh are >£2k. Modern derailleurs shouldn't need adjusting on regular basis, especially mid-high end ones eg shimano deore, SLX, XT. For cost of upgrading perfectly good bikes you could fit high quality derailleurs, Di2 even, over...

    My New Conversion

Wifes Shimano Steps bike came with 44T and 11-34t cassette. Found it to high for some steeps hills so switch 38T chainring, now really use 1st gear but we are lot lighter riders. As anotherkiwi will vouch Wellington has no shortage of steep hills. With 38T chainring and 11-40t cassette you...

    independent e bike technician

From what I understand replacing bearing means dismantling motor. A your staff Bosch trained to dismantle motor. The alternative is to remove motor(straight forward job) and send it to local Bosch agent. Will they change bearings for nominal fee or exchange motor for few hundred $.

    My New Conversion

It maybe OK with existing gears, depends on your weight and hills you need to climb.

    Bosch ebike motor reliability

I don't think FS eMTB would make any difference to motor bearing reliability. The FS does make huge difference to comfort and traction when climbing over rough ground, comes at higher maintenance cost.

which size mtb wheel nowadays ?

26" was only MTB wheel size until 29" came along. Now 27.5" dominates with 29" still common. New 26" MTBs have all but disappeared, considering how many used ones there are, very few are to be found on MTB tracks these days. Tyres and spares are also starting to become hard to find, a lot of LSB...

    Bosch ebike motor reliability

Eddie do you have pictures or instructions on that plastic seal protector and how to remove and regrease it. My motor was replaced in June so good chance it will have one. In regards to battery, Bosch is not alone, our 400wh Shimano battery is not what it was after 3000kms. At least they are...
