    Bosch ebike motor reliability

If they have gone direct drive with these motors then expect next generation performance line motors to follow suit.

Preview of the Woosh Santana CD 2018

Excellent value considering it has decent gears, forks and brakes. Most ebikes at this price have cheap forks and lower spec gears.

    SRAM EX1 first impressions review

I've discovered recently that CX needs new chainring with each chain. Replaced chain and it sounded like tractor till replace chainring. At €9 for Connex chainring its not that big a deal and may workout cheaper than ebikes with fullsize chainrings. This would've explained why my 2nd chain...

    Bosch ebike motor reliability

The active drive been replaced with new Active Cruise and Active Plus, both quieter and running large direct drive chainring. Performance and CX unchanged at present on outside at least. I'd expect both to be replaced with more compact quieter version using larger direct chainring in 2019...

Converting existing bike vs buying new?

Bike drivechains and wheels are designed to handle 200w continously with peaks of 500W. A 2kw motor will eat chains, expect <1000km from cheap 8-9spd chain and less from more expensive 10-11spd. My 250w eMTB gets about 700-1000kms from 11spd chain, lot offroad work but lot less power. With...

Converting existing bike vs buying new?

Be careful with fitting high powered drives, standard bikes brakes and tyres are not really design for 30mph+ speeds and heavy weight. A 1000-2000W motor will need a large heavy expebsive battery. In end you maybe better off on legal scooter or small motorbike.

    Rookie error? Decreased front sprocket

I keep degreaser well clear motor, just clean chainring area with brush and rag. You can still degrease chain with it removed from chainring just a bit more work. Some experts recommend never degreasing just wipe of excess dirt best you can and relube others swear by degreasing. The non...

Bosch CX seems to be flawed?

My failed after 6mths and 2000kms. Lots offroad riding, think it was bearings. Shop picked it up, I had it in for something else. One week turnaround. All happy till it fails outside warranty. Unfornuately there is no way to protect bearings from water and dirt ingress. Bearing replacements...

    What Bosch motor for commuting?

I ride a CX and Shimano STEP (active equivanlent) an prefer STEPs on road, CX offroad everytime.STEP gentler power delivery in lower settings, better on flat or gentle hills. CX in turbo will definitely give you faster climbing speed, typically 25% -30% more. Both will get you to work sweat...

New ebike - teething problems or more?

Most factory middrives make some noise, more noticeable under heavy load especially when climbing in higher assist level. Less so in eco on flat as load is less and wind noise covers it. None of reviews of Yamaha drive say it is quiet so I'd say noise is normal.

    Removing battery when locked up.

Removing battery, especially on Bosch bikes means bike is almost worthless if stolen. At £700 for replacement no thief is going buy one to sell bike. In case FS eMTB bike could be stripped for components and sold separately eg shocks, brake, derailluer. If bike is stolen then you will have...

    Cube ebike parts

Its worth having spare hanger. If you break one your bike could be off the road for weeks and you maybe in for long walk home. I got mine from bike discount, will supply PN later. Can't remember how I found right Cube PN, best to take photos of your one and compare to ones on line.

My first crash - Gear problem

The bell full face might be bit much for commuting but most of new MTB helmets have better coverage around back and sides.

    Another new "aged" newbie

Crank drive hybrid with thinner road tyres will allow to pedal well over 15mph cutoff on flat. With dutch style and fat tyres your will be struggling to go much over 15mph. The hardtail eMTB are good compromise, with road tyres not a lot slower than hybrid. While still having option to explore...
