Advice on e bike suitability for chronic pain/fatigue

Most bike shops should let you have a reasonably long test ride and Halfords are still offering a 48 hour test, so it's pretty easy to have a go and see how you get on. If you maintained the Ridgeback yourself back in the day, you should be able to fit a kit from Woosh or similar firms and save...

    Yosepower hub kits.

Ebay and Amazon sell plastic boxes to hold controllers onto bikes. Cheap and much nicer than bags.

    8 to 12 magnet PAS

That's quite a good idea. You would need two of them and a bit of logic circuitry to get the direction sensing, but they are certainly cheap enough.

    Repair kit

I tried slime but it didn't work (got a flat almost straight away!). Found a double ended tube and I'm now carrying that so I don't have to worry about taking the motor wheel off when I'm out. Allen keys Small screwdriver (for adjusting gears) cable ties Pump and repair kit 8 and 10mm spanners

Drivers could face minimum distance for overtaking cyclists

The "cycle lanes" painted on the roads round here actually encourage drivers to pass much too close : the marked lanes are a maximum of 1 metre wide and often considerably less (down to 0.6m in places). For car drivers, so long as they are on the outside of the painted lines they think that they...

Shimano BB91-41 Bottom bracket PAS success

WoW! I thought mine was tight enough and I didn't have to contend with a big suspension bush in the way. I did manage to keep my granny ring though - the PAS disc is glued to the granny with a spacer so that the PAS is *just* clear of the chain.

Where does the hall sensor go?

Yup - the missing pedal sensor (hall sensor) is probably why it isn't working. According to the packing list on the ebay site, the sensor goes onto the LEFT hand crank. Pull the crank off and push the sensor into place. If it's on the wrong side (or the wrong way round) the motor will run when...

    Battery Storage

According to various internet sites, +15 degrees C is the ideal storage temperature for Li-on cells, but down to -20 degrees shouldn't harm them. At 15 degrees you can charge at the standard voltage : much below and it gets more complicated. Personally, I choose to leave my battery in a cold...

Could you give me your opinion on this kit?

Most people doing a conversion are (or were in the past) fairly keen cyclists who are used to lots of gears. It could be a better sales ploy to fit dual chain rings as standard - a more attractive buy even if the cost is marginally higher. I seriously considered a Rio MTB before going down the...

XF08C Rear Hub Kit WITH 17AH Battery From Woosh

Yes - lets see some pictures! You got the same kit as me - and got the same amazing service too. I think Woosh should change their little tag line to read "Woosh makes happy customers". They are certainly much more than just "reasonable".

    Chinese imports

I think you need to find a bit more dosh if you are to get anything worthwhile. That budget would just about cover a basic conversion kit from ebay and you'd still need a reasonable bike to convert. Worth looking at Gumtree to see if there is a secondhand one in your price range.

    Chinese imports

Many on this forum have gone electric for just that reason! A bike with a cadence sensor (it simply senses that the pedals are being turned) will motor along without any significant force on the pedals. Most conversion kits will also provide a throttle - you still need to turn the pedals...

Could you give me your opinion on this kit?

Looks very good - had it been available when I did my bike last autumn I would have been very tempted. It took me most of a day to sort out fitting the PAS sensor to my hollowtech - and that's with having all the tools I could need (including a laser cutter). Brilliant to just bolt it in and be...

    Problems Indexing on a 1x9

The Deore mechs have much bigger/stronger return springs than the Altus and Alivio equivalents, in addition to being generally much better engineered. I got mine from Amazon : cheapest I could find anywhere at £27.50. It will do up to 9 speed. (Deore RD-M592, long cage)

    PSWPower after sales service?

Depends how fast you want to go up. 250W will manage most hills so long as you use the gears sensibly and put in a small amount of effort yourself. Cycling around north of Romsey (where it is at least as hilly as the New Forest) I have found only one hill which defeats my 250W rear hub motor...

    Problems Indexing on a 1x9

I had an Altus rear mech on my old bike and had similar problems. The hanger was OK, but the bearing bush which screws into the hanger allowed the mech to wobble about. I changed it to a Deore mech (which is much better engineered) and the problem went away permanently.

Are FreeGo the first casualty of Anti Dumping?

I'm not convinced that it is solely the anti-dumping thing that has caused Freego to fail. I looked at their bikes before I went the DIY kit route : the bikes looked solidly made and were good value, but they were sort of frumpy. Maybe they were aimed at the older buyer, but I'm old and I still...

    Battery decision

Not necessarily true. In the case of these electronically commutated motors, the current is limited in the controller. Increasing the voltage ***allows*** more current to be fed to the motor, but the current is only increased if you change the current limit settings (software) or tamper with the...
