    E-bike questions

That's exactly what I thought, so I made a label. Poor photo, but it is glossy black plastic engraved to reveal metallic silver writing.

And i thought i had seen it all

SWMBO will definitely want one if she sees this!

    10 speed with hydraulic discs

The MXUS XF08-CST kit from Woosh will take a 10-speed cassette. (Best check with Woosh that the lowest gear will be usable though - the biggest cog will be very near the side of the motor). Fitting hydraulic brake sensors is a fiddle, but perfectly do-able.

    Charging Station For E-bikes

Maybe some bikes have batteries that can be charged quickly, but I suspect that the vast majority don't. My battery charges at about 7.5 miles per hour - an eight hour wait before setting off for home if I started off fully charged and ran it flat!

    Northern Ireland EAPC status.

And Arlene Foster bangs on about how NI must remain exactly the same as the rest of the UK after brixit!

New project female frame 26 " wheels

Another thumbs up for Woosh. (I think I have the same kit as DC - an XF08C cassette compatible rear motor). Woosh are really helpful and will tailor the kit to suit the type of brakes and bottom bracket on your bike. You may need to answer quite a few questions when you order! You get a choice...

Is it a Bird or is it a Plane ?

A "bell" should sound like a bell. Shouting is inappropriate and possibly dangerous! A while ago I was walking on a fairly narrow path with my wife. Someone shouted behind us and we both turned round to see what was up. I was carrying a long stick and in turning, nearly took the shouter off his...

    Cycling Gear

Thanks for the heads up! I have a good pannier bag, but it is a bit small. Got a pair of huge panniers at Lidl today. They seem reasonable quality for an amazing price - at £9.99/pair it doesn't really matter if they don't last forever. Wife went mad and bought yet another helmet and some...

    Hybrid cars

According to an American bloke on James May's TV show recently, he can make petrol by heating carbon dioxide in a solar furnace - completely carbon neutral! ***IF*** the process becomes viable, then we can all go back to being petrol heads with a clear conscience. On the other hand, Andy-Matt...

Increasing mid-drive's acceleration with bicycle parts only

Nifty idea, but 2 (UK) gallons of fuel will keep you going for about 9 minutes. Just enough time to crash and burn (literally) or get yourself arrested! I'd love one of those just to play with. My Granddad was a toolmaker and made parts for Frank Whittle's early experimental engines.

Could you give me your opinion on this kit?

My wife is making noises about converting her bike again. She tried a torque sensing setup (Forme PT2 ELS) the other day and liked it, so it will be a tossup between this kit or a Tongsheng for her Liv Rove. A double chainring is an absolute must for her. Any news as to when the kit will become...

    Lux or Lumens?

I'd expect a whole bike for the price of that Lupine light!

muc off bike cleaner why you should never use it

Fairy liquid has lots of salt in it - leads to corrosion! Better to use car shampoo.

    Schwalbe smart Sam good choice?

Had the Smart Sams, but changed to Kenda Small Block 8s which give a much better ride - particularly in muddy conditions. The only downside is a thrumming on tarmac because the blocks don't overlap.

    Chargers and battery technology

With bike batteries, the electronics for cell balancing is normally fitted inside the battery pack - not part of the external charger itself.

Cheap commuter into long range e-bike.

I recon my 36V 17AH (612WH) battery will do 60 miles at low to medium assist and 30 to 40 if I'm more aggressive with the power. This would involve a few fairly steep hills. (Woosh XF08-CST kit). For a 25 mile run with hills a 15AH battery should provide a reasonable safety margin and 13AH...

    Bafang G510 Ultra frame build

My 25-year old double-butted steel frame mountain bike weighed almost exactly the same as my modern "light weight"* aluminium one (both were/are mid-range bikes - nothing special). I think that part of the reason for this is the fashion for curved and fancy shaped tubing : a curved aluminium...

Advice on e bike suitability for chronic pain/fatigue

This talk about mobility scooters - I'm 68, but when I'm wooshing along on my bike I loose 50 years and at 18 I can tackle just about anything (except Cow Drove Hill). I've not tried a mobility scooter, but I suspect that if I did, I would quickly turn into a doddery 98 year old and start...

Help! Help building my first ebike

There are two sorts of magnetic brake sensors for hydraulic brakes - 2 wire and 3 wire : make sure that you get the correct type for your controller. (The 3 wire (3 pin) ones are generally sold to go with the Bafang mid drive motors). There are also two types of disk rotor fittings. If your...
