would like to contribute to politics of road-sharing

Unless Sustrans (supposedly THE experts on cycle ways) change their attitude dramatically, there is no way that this can happen. On our local cycle path (a Sustrans job only some 10 years ago) at each road junction the cycle path veers AWAY from the road junction, effectively making two separate...

Hello from Yorkshire, with one million questions

Great satisfaction in fitting your own kit. For the Hollowtech bottom bracket : Enlarge to hole in the pedal sensor magnet ring so that it fits over the bearing holders. Glue the magnet ring to the smallest chainwheel ( you might need a spacer if it is a very small chainwheel - otherwise the...

    Pathway or Highway?

Sustrans and the council made a superbly smooth cycle path near us some years ago. Most of It is totally ignored by the "high speed" riders and the lack of use has allowed weeds to grow up through the asphalt. The bits in the village which are used more frequently are still in pretty good...

    Recommendation for a 250 or 500w ekit

Cyclotricity was the first ebike conversion place I found. Didn't go with them because although their kits start off looking cheap, as soon as you add everything you need (PAS, a display, a freewheel etc.) then it starts to look very expensive. I never came across anything about brake sensors on...

    Recommendation for a 250 or 500w ekit

Another thumbs up for Woosh The great thing with them is that all their manuals are on-line, so you can see any problems areas of your bike before you start. I addition, Woosh will customise your kit, making sure that you get the correct type of PAS and brake sensors etc. (I don't think any...

    Navigation Choices

I bought my wife a little phone "pannier" which straps to the top tube behind the handlebars. There is just room in the side pockets for a power bank to keep the phone going all day. I too like Maps ME - because it is always there even if you unexpectedly loose the phone signal. The mapping is...

    Navigation Choices

Google maps "directions" gives the option of cycling - and will give you cycle-friendly routes keeping you on quieter roads as much as possible. Get yourself a decent phone!

    First ebike conversion & Newbie

On my setup I needed the spacer to keep the magnet disc clear of the chain - even with the spacer there is only just enough room. I think my granny chain ring has 22 teeth - if yours has more teeth (bigger diameter) then you might get away without the spacer. The sensor should be 5mm or less...

    First ebike conversion & Newbie

For the pedal sensor - Enlarge the hole in the magnet disc so that it fits over the bottom bracket (dremel, hole saw etc.). Then glue the magnet disc to the granny chain ring : from your picture the chain ring is small, so you will probably need to make up a spacer like I did. If the sensor...

    HMRC Invalid relief

I was thinking of Quartz bikes which look like this - but if it looks like this one - then you could find/make a bracket to hold the computer lower down the stem or on the top of the frame near where it joins the head tube. You could try it on the handlebars first though : an extra few inches...

You must have incredibly high handle bars or a massively huge wheel - is it a penny farthing?

    Measure battery capacity

I assume that the Lidl power meter plugs into the mains? The battery charger will be working at roughly 85% efficiency (15% lost as heat) - that gives you an idea of how much power is actually going into the battery. Anotherkiwi's type of meter is much more accurate, but probably over the top...

    Yosepower hub kits.

The Woosh 48V 12AH battery has Samsung "29E" cells according to their hub kit pages. Their HL 36V 17AH has Panasonic "B" cells and would match very nicely with a 17A controller. (The "B" cells are rated for ~6.5A (2C) : at 17A the discharge rate is ~1C which is good for a longish battery life).

    Delta Batri Bike

I thought £49 sounded reasonable too, but the lowest price I can find it is £135. Amazon has lots of cheaper ones, but who knows if they are any good?

Agree with PC2017 - fit the brake sensors! Sometimes you need to be able to pedal without having a surge of power - such as when changing gear whilst slowing down.

New MTB Kit Build (picture heavy)

Having electrified my old Saracen back in the summer, I was so pleased to be back into cycling that I decided to treat myself to a new bike. I spent ages looking for a suitable bike (with 26" wheels so I could keep the same motor wheel) : the secondhand ones were either overpriced (to my mind)...

    Sizing

Not just ebikes - it's pretty common for shops to push the bikes they have in stock rather than get the right size in. My wife liked a bike in the LBS, but it was too small for her. The salesman put a lot of effort in trying to convince her that the size was just right and then made...

    Yosepower hub kits.

Where is your 15 mile radius based on? It occurs to me that in a few weeks time (once I've transferred the Woosh kit onto my new bike) my old bike will probably* be up for sale. I'm in Hampshire near Romsey. I won't be asking much since it is 25 years old, but it is in very nice condition with...

    Yosepower hub kits.

I was the same as you, but found that the better bikes from 2006 to 2011 or so (before the big wheel fad) were going for more than I was prepared to pay for something secondhand and that old. You could also try findthatbike.co.uk - lets you search by county and you can set up email alerts. It...
