new to e-bikes advise on purchase

That possible £4800 a year on your motoring costs in a year is staggering, do you really spend that much with the new commuting distance?

    Attitude towards E-bikes

and that's just a small selection of the 168 messages against e-bikes with only a handful of positive comments, really quite sad if that's a true representation of MTB riders. I imagine road cyclists could be even worse in their negative opinions.

    Attitude towards E-bikes

It was posted 17 hours ago, it's 2/3 of the way down that page on the left. Perhaps you need a Facebook account to see it. It was all the Facebook user messages I was referring to. https://www.facebook.com/wiggle I hadn't clicked the link on Facebook, that just takes you to the bike for sale...

    Attitude towards E-bikes

I thought someone said it had become more favourable. This Haibike piece on the Wiggle facebook page begs to differ. It's on this page, I can't seem to simply link to the exact review. https://www.facebook.com/wiggle

That sounds really bad to me, perhaps it's not as bad as it sounds? I presume there will be quite a loss of momentum each time you pass between gears. But I guess all of this is unknown at this stage.

Legal ebike that can climb steep hills fast!

I would have thought not even d8eh's bikes can get up the 3 segments I've posted at 15.5 mph average speed with no rider input.

Legal ebike that can climb steep hills fast!

1 in 10 doesn't seem steep to me either. Perhaps Strava is cheating me then. Here's an 11% average grade, although it is 1 in 3 in parts http://app.strava.com/segments/2441513?filter=overall I know for certain no one on here would say that's not steep. I'm struggling to find a nice even 10%...

Legal ebike that can climb steep hills fast!

Well that's good then. But the OP wants to do it without pedalling. I think he wants the impossible, his requirement is a big ask.

Legal ebike that can climb steep hills fast!

    I suppose it's quite possible you don't know just how steep a 10% grade hill is ? Here's a 9% one http://app.strava.com/segments/810015?filter=overall

Legal ebike that can climb steep hills fast!

I thought 250 Watts was legal and not 1200 Watts ? Trex I have nothing against people being lazy on an ebike, but flying up a hill at such speed without pedalling is going to make you stick out like a sore thumb.

    Car failed, ebike didn't

It was just giving you the push you needed to stop being lazy and use the bike :p :)

Legal ebike that can climb steep hills fast!

To me that seems like a strange requirement, an illegal bike that absolutely flies up hills faster than any bicycle on the road, and then becomes one of the slowest bicycles on the flat.

How fast do you go downhills

50.5 mph, I often see around 40 mph.

software or app to show gradient of hills etc

Strava has a very good free route planner. The Garmin will show you the elevation gain of each ride.

BS10 vs Giant TCR3 advanced vs The Wind !

I suppose the power difference could be because mine is less powerful being a hub geared bike. I'm with you on deciding how much pain, I'm trying to work a bit harder on the bike, but it's not easy with that switch just a thumb click away.

BS10 vs Giant TCR3 advanced vs The Wind !

L3 and L4 give exactly the same amount of assistance in a lot of situations, it's only when you match the right cadence and pressure that the Bosch requires to gives its most on a steep hill that L4 gives a slight advantage. Well that's what I've found. and yes a headwind uses masses more...
