Legal ebike that can climb steep hills fast!

Is it possible to make a uk legal ebike limited to 15.5 mph but which can climb a 10% hill at 15.5 mph without pedalling? This could sell really well-certainly to me! Two current threads seem to me to suggest it is possible! A crank drive through gears with a 250 watt motor that could peak at 1100 watts ought to do the job, with a speed sensor limiter at 15.5 mph and a throttle?

Surely the crank drive would need some input!

No legal crank drive will do it. An Ezee motor can do it if you feed it 30 amps and only if you weigh 75 kg or less.

The 250w ones have relatively small motors that wouldn't e able to take the current.

the new crank drive from XOFO might.
They have 250W, 500W and 750W versions.
They look easier to open than the BBS01.
The MMT (fitted with torque sensor) may be better because you can stop pedalling when changing gear, still need someone to review it.

My original eZee Quando has a 30 Amp controller with an SB motor* and peaks at over 1000 watts gross.

It will climb 7% at 12 mph without pedalling, 10% at 9 mph, both carrying my not very heavy 70 kilos.

But it would need far more power to climb 10% at 15 mph.

* Exactly the same electrics as on the original eZee Torq, but the motor in a 20" wheel instead of a 700c.

What about the Tonaro?
Alan Blake posted this in this thread http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/ezee-sprint-compared-to-tonaro-esprit-2.16918/#post-208408
"I also have a tonaro, I put an old crystlte 48v 35 amp controller on it with throttle, its my bench mark.
1 motor gets hot when used hard for 10kms.
2 whole bike heavy even after upgrades.
3 crank drive on this sucks power just to turn itself, an Asthmatic ant hill is more efficient and sounds better.

But it proves for hills gears is the way."

Google 48volt Tonaro mods, there are quite a few.

To me that seems like a strange requirement, an illegal bike that absolutely flies up hills faster than any bicycle on the road, and then becomes one of the slowest bicycles on the flat.

I'm hoping to bring one back from China in a few weeks time.

I thought 250 Watts was legal and not 1200 Watts ?
Trex I have nothing against people being lazy on an ebike, but flying up a hill at such speed without pedalling is going to make you stick out like a sore thumb.

the XOFO MMT 750W won't move unless you put in 10%

The 250w wont (the only legal one), even the 500w wont. The 750w might.

Well that's good then. But the OP wants to do it without pedalling. I think he wants the impossible, his requirement is a big ask.
