Another new member...and a question already!

It may do. It may burn out the controller or motor. But if you are brave, why not chuck the battery from your other bike (guessing 36v) on it and see if it improves. It'll certainly go faster, but that may not be what you want to happen.

Another new member...and a question already!

The existing battery may be bespoke, but it's technology will be standard, and it easy to find another place on that bike for a different battery. I don't think you will be able to re-cell it yourself, unless you have a spot welder. There are people that can do this for you though, but it's a...

Some photos would help. What type of battery is it?

My guess is the battery does not have enough capacity to put out the current required. At 24v, to get 500w you need around 20A, which is over 2C in your setup. Normally, a 500w motor will peak at double that, so could happily consume 40A for a bit. To be sure, get a watt meter from eBay...

    Our replacement for the EU?

The Queen is, presumably because she said yes. The position does not automatically go to the British Monarch, nor is it inherited.

Muc-Off Nano Tech Bike Cleaner: Anyone spot better value than this?

I use this stuff: http://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-heavy-duty-degreaser-5ltr/88668 Cost £9/5ltr (£2.86/ltr) but supposed to be watered down about 20:1 (so about 15p/ltr) If you use it at 3:1 in a container you can clean even the filthiest chain completely in about 10 mins flat.

Ebiking allows me and my mates go on pub crawls around the fabulous East Devon countryside once a week.

    rideback with shimano steps

Using 12wh/mile I'd say that bike has a range of 33 miles. 12wh/mile is about normal for someone not too fit, in averagely rolling countryside. You may get half or double that, but it's at least a place to start.

    I need some advice

Most bikes can take a lot more than stated, mountain bikes especially as they have to be built strong to cope with bumps and jumps. My mate is about 24 stone, he's happily riding round on a bike with 700c wheels and skinny tyres.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Threats of violence and extreme abuse have all been on this thread in the last 48h. While it's causing no damage, let I carry on, its in the off topic section after all. When it starts to cause trouble then the pedelec community doesn't need it anymore.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Lock the thread. It's causing too much trouble among those that don't know how to behave.

1 pound bike rack bag on amazon

I have a couple of those bags, very good for holding a massive rear battery (20ah), and lasted many years so far.

My latest and most difficult conversion Trek Top Fuel 9.9 Carbon.

While I've never had a BBS, I've had about 15 Bafangs because I sort out all my mates bikes. BPM, CST and SWX. 7 of them were second hand, and a couple of those I have personally put 3000 miles extra on. In all that time, the only problem I've had is one (very high mileage) that's a little bit...

Best Budget Kit and a few questions?

At your budget, fast as you can is really only 15-18 mph anyway. With 24 gears (8 speed cassette I'd guess) you have to make a choice. You can get a cassette motor which limits your choice, or a freewheel motor and set up your changers for 7 speed, loosing a position. You will need to get hold...

    Bike spotting

I think it was Kudos Dave that outed him. I wondered if he had been reincarnated recently as Flud. You never see them in the same room at the same time. I also wonder how long until the new Doctor is regenerated.

Best Budget Kit and a few questions?

Choice of kit depends on how fast you want to go, how far, how heavy and how many gears you have.

Best Budget Kit and a few questions?

Rear hub motors all have either a cassette (usually 8 or more gears) or freewheel (usually 7 or less) fitting, so you just put your old gears on the new motor. You will probably have to adjust the derailleur once fitted. All this means that a rear kit requires a bit more time and a few more...
