Two punctures in two days!

I fixed a puncture yesterday evening, replacing the regular inner tube with a slime, self sealing tube. They seal punctures of up to 2mm. I only had a one mile walk home with that one. Here's the puncture occurring.

Today, it's just my luck to be as far away from home as possible on my regular bike ride route. 3.5 miles away at the halfway point. The 3mm puncture didn't seal, even though the slime did try it's best.








So, mad dogs aside, another glorious day in paradise was had. I had a long walk home and I was knackered, until I remembered that my dog is a trained musher.

Dont have slime or puncture resistant tyres on my bike...... not had a puncture in almost 3 years.

Of course, i've done it now....... That puncture fairy will be after my ass now.

its easy tbh and prob will not need a drill and once fitted all you need do is top the wheel up every 3 months.

Just bad luck really it happens, I'm still tubed up and happy with my set up. Like Eddie I ride the downs N & S with its flints so go prepared, puncture kit if needed also pair of spare tubes and recently added a folding tyre as a sliced tyre won't get you far whether tubed or tubeless. Two 50+ mile rides last week to the North Downs and nothing to worry about.

I don't doubt it. But they cost 7.5 x more than a slime tube. Only one slime tube has failed to seal punctures that I've had, and that was this one today.

So,I'll stick with the slime tubes for now. Cheers for the info though SW.

Two 50+ mile rides last week to the North Downs and nothing to worry about.

Agreed Neal. I'm not prepared for 'long hauls' because I only bike locally. The only reason that I had to walk home was because I left my phone in the charger.

I'm running with 20 psi front and back. I might drop that to 18 as it's a bit 'choppy' at the mo.

Can you not patch repair slime tubes?

A puncture repair kit and small pump would easily fit in your pack.

At least 40 psi according to my bike pump on my Rapid Rob's.

i now have a sg tyre on the rear as when low psi with the normal tyres i can rip the tyre off the rim if the psi is low on the rear.

if you fit a pro core kit you can run as low as 8 psi but the kit is a rip off.

Yes you can repair them, just like a normal tube. However, I lost all my slime when it tried to seal the hole. So I may as well just get another slime tube. That little sliver of aluminium, that caused the puncture, looked to be from a coke tin ring pull.

I do carry a mini pump in my rack bag.

Jeeze Leigh, that pressure seems well low to me, maybe thats why your getting puctures.
I run 85/90 psi front & rear on my ebike and about 100 on my road bike.

Probably worth getting a £2 repair kit to save a 3 mile walk.

Could you not "Lassie" your dog to sense your trouble, bring you the repair kit and a barrel of brandy.

I run low pressure to go through woodland. It handles the roots well.

This is the reason why I got the puncture today.



No amount of pressure would have avoided being speared by that.
