Bike spotting

This topic is about interesting or unusual pedelecs (legal) that people may have spotted in the wild.

This year my town, which has a season population of over 100,000 at peak times, has been a great place for pedelec spotting:

My first rare bike spotting was the Tern folder with Bafang BBS01. Very nice little bike, I wouldn't mind one myself http://www.ternbicycles.com/bikes/472/elink You could DIY from one of the un-motorized Tern folders which would most probably work out cheaper.

My second was the Smart. The first time I have seen one on the road http://int.smart.com/en/en/index/smart-electric-bike.html Very attractive looking bike with unmistakable build quality and components (65 € Ergon pedals...). I went over for a chat and well... I confirmed that this particular bike does seem to attract buyers with slightly flawed social skills... If you follow my drift, yes HE has a French cousin

Third is the mystery bike that was spotted being pushed by a lady up the pedestrian street in front of my flat. I didn't retain the type or manufacturer (working nights isn't good for short term memory) painted on the "frame". 20" wheel non folder completely enclosed motor and battery. Kind of looked like a super lightweight scooter with low step through. It looked too well built/expensive to be Chinese (Oh naughty boy!) and the gentleman was pushing a Kalkhoff.

Maybe it actually was ( Bi lingual) Smarty pants and he had parked his imaginary big boat in your local marina.

A boat? He was on my ignored list too quick for me to pick up that bit.

No a French accent. I think that it is a bike which appeals to the socially un-adapted. Shame apart from the huge direct drive motor (which from memory produces so much electricity you can sell it back to EDF after your ride...) I quite like the looks of it.

Yes he claimed to having a top notch ocean going boat but his bluff was called by Col of FLI ( I think ), he mentioned how he approached /entered the port of Gib but was soon questioned and debunked by his answers.
I never did put him on ignore as I found him amusing but very arrogant, as we know he eventually left as he couldn't keep the pretence going after the seafaring hole digging.

I think it was Kudos Dave that outed him.

I wondered if he had been reincarnated recently as Flud. You never see them in the same room at the same time.

I also wonder how long until the new Doctor is regenerated.

Ah, wrong distributer but thanks for putting that straight and both Sp and Flood on here no more.

In all my outings I'm yet to come across another ebike ( except very rarely locally about town) even off road I don't come across many pedal bikes, probably because I'm not a weekender.

I wasn't aware that Wander had posted in this thread.

I happened to bump into Brightonebikes one sunny afternoon whilst out on the South Downs. Does that count. :)

.
Indeed Eddie. I think I'd seen so many photos of your bike, I recognised it immediately upon sight! [emoji3]

Another ebike is a rare sight around here, let alone a rare ebike.

Although I did see a Specialized Levo whose owner was waiting to get on the South Shields ferry as I was wheeling my Rose off.

That's a thought - I don't recall seeing a Rose ebike apart from mine.

I saw a few whilst out in Switzerland, but not as many as I had thought that I would. Last year I saw loads, mainly KTM, Stromer, Specialised, Flyer and Haibike.

This year it was one Trek fs eMTB, one Giant fs eMTB, and three de badged/stickered black fs eMTB's that I thought might have been Cube. None of which were being used for off road riding.

I also saw plenty of nice comfy and practical looking Dutch style ebikes on the backs of camper vans though.

Only use mine on the XC trails (Cannock, llandegle and Coed Y Brenin so far) and not seen another e-bike yet - in fact, never seen one at all before I had mine a few weeks ago. Get stopped plenty of times (or rather, questioned when I stop and others come by) and seems to be a genuine interest, but found also a lot of resistance to my bike (no pun intended) by other trail users.
