The U.K. has backed so many winners when it comes to vaccine, I don’t think it makes any difference. The U.K. will have a huge surplus of effective vaccine and the plan is to give that surplus to developing & poorer nations.

The EU needs to learn that this isn’t a football match. One team can’t win, the whole world has to win. It’s the human population of Earth v The virus, so on this occasion the EU needs to bury its treacherous infantile tendencies and crack on.
" EU needs to bury its treacherous infantile tendencies and crack on. "
Really? what about the fact that Boris has boasted he wouldn't hesitate to use article 16?

Just a small point the EU doesn't control the companies that manufacture the Vaccine any more than we do the ones here.
I'm not sure the Palestinians would be as fulsome in praise of Israel as you are.
Even the Times of Israel carried this
https://www.timesofisrael.com/who-raises-concerns-about-vaccine-inequity-between-israel-and-palestinians/
That's perfectly true OG but Israel has demonstrated it is possible for a nation to vaccinate at a high level from day 1..Dont get this staggered start. Yes, it's a marothon but you don't think "oh, I, ll wait 20 minutes after start gun, then walk for a couple of miles and build up to race pace."
You start at a level you can sustain and with correct production, logistics and organisation that should have been a high level the very day authorisation was granted.
And your cop-out for EU simply raises question well what are they for then. You argue when it goes wrong (as it has now) its the individual countries responsibility. What are they doing then.
And is it just coincidence not a single EU country in top 10 of nations making a good start with vaccines. You are defending the indefensible here OG. EU have got this wrong. Fact.

It's all very odd, obviously a very wrong decision, I have been trying to track down who actually made the statement that this article 16 was being invoked....nothing on the EU website and nothing but newspaper references revealed by a google search.
Anyone else had better luck tracing the source?

Of and by the bye
I believe they are ashamed of what they have done and are attempting to bury it. The story is real, they’ve acknowledged their about turn.

The story is real, but was it true.?. If the EU had sought to break the protocol, it is at least feasible they would have discussed it with the Irish Foreign Minister and or Taoiseach.. neither of which occurred. They have not acknowledged anything about a U turn,in anything , I have seen, . The only reference I have seen is a confirmation to S.Coveney that the NI Protocol was unthreatened...and that was very late yesterday.
So I would be extremely interested in being directed to an EU statement earlier in the day. Note not a BBC or SKY or even RTE report, not the reactions of talking heads but something unequivocally EU.

Macron shouldn't be making such comments. France only have around 40% supportive of having vaccine. The EU have authorised jab. It's at best contradictory. Is Macron an epidemiologist???
Interestingly no French labs have developed a working vaccine for covid..??? (claimed in article)

Micron represents his nation perfectly. An inferior pigmy fuelled by resentment and shame.

I’m listening to Sir John Bell head of the Oxford vaccine programme on LBC. He’s tearing into Micron too, and I get the impression he considers Micron to be an idiot.

That’s 50% of the issue. The EU leadership consulted no other members. It’s basically Germany riding roughshod. They will toss Ireland into the metaphorical gas chamber when you have served your purpose.

Rather than innuendo, and supposition, I prefer facts . How sure are you that any EU leadership did anything? Again a news report UNLESS it names EU officials doe not count.

Of course we have, out of desperate need.

We've made such a huge mess of handling Covid-19 that we have a terrible deathrate that many others don't share, so we've panic bought vaccines, even inadequately tested ones.

Those EU countries that haven't vaccinated many simply don't need to. Take Bulgaria at the bottom of the EU vaccine implementation chart. With only 30 deaths a day their death rate is a fraction of ours proportional to population, so they don't need to be spending vast sums on multiple vaccines.
.

Yep, Bulgaria doesn't have a problem.
They have a covid death rate of 1302 per million population. That's amongst worst in world. (France is 1100,ours is 1350,Belgium 1800)

I am not defending Macron but you should read the test results published by AZ.
The headline figures are the relative case ratios placebo /vaccinated groups.

Out of 175 incidents, 84 were from the vaccinated group against 91 in the placebo group.
Specifically from the 55+, first jab, up to 21 days:
hospitalised: 2 in the vaccinated group, 4 in the placebo group.
after 21 days: 1 in the vaccinated group, 3 in the placebo group.
Can you make a judgement call to approve the vaccine based on just 9 hospitalisation incidents or on the 84 against 91 incidents? Underlying factors can easily move the 'efficacy' one way or the other.
On top of the raw incident cases, you have to take into account the immune reaction to the adenovirus used as vector. Even if the body does not react to the virus in the first jab, it will in the second.
Honestly, we need any good enough vaccine but if we could choose, I am still voting for the Pfizer.

Yes, we agree the government has done badly in controlling the virus. That doesn’t mean they will do badly in the vaccination stakes. They have backed enough winners, they have cracked on with ordering and the same with approvals. Now the U.K. is making a fantastic job of the vaccination rates.

Bulgaria is suffering. They should have an easier time than the U.K. because there is only one man and a goat called Kevin living there. Not like the U.K. with many dense overcrowded cities.

Think yourself lucky, you had your vaccination a couple of days ago. You could have been waiting for a French dwarf to cease bitching and actually get on and fo something useful.

It’s safe, it’s effective, it stops you dying. If you don’t want to be vaccinated, just keep quiet and let those that do get it. We need maximum uptake and this BS works against that objective and assists the French gnome with his sabotage.

You have strayed into knob-head behaviour. Stop.

EU vaccine export row: Bloc backtracks on controls for NI https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55865539
Facts please. Not news bulletins unless they identify official EU spokespersons by name . See my previous posts . I have been very clear on this. I see this as important and would be Very annoyed if in fact the EU had threatened the NI Protocol. But Evidence please .. not talking heads all saying its a bad idea. I have not seen any official EU document or press conference proposing it. I have seen two documents which 1 .make no reference 2 which deny its impact on NI Protocol
