More Brexit good news:

"Toyota has begun production of its all-new Corolla hatchback and estate range at the firm's UK manufacturing facility in Derbyshire.

An official ceremony attended by global Toyota figures marked the first models rolling out of the Burnaston plant. The production of the Corolla, which remains the world's best-selling car globally, will see European spec models arrive next month.

Business Secretary Greg Clark said the decision to produce the Corolla in the UK was "testament to our proud manufacturing heritage, the highly skilled workforce and leading innovation that sets our world-beating automotive industry apart".

Toyota previously announced the Ford Focus rival will start from £21,300 when it goes on sale in March alongside the Touring Sports estate, with the brand accepting pre-orders for both models.

Entry-level Icon models will arrive with 16in alloy wheels, an 8in infotainment system with reversing camera, heated front seats and automatic LED headlights, while more advanced Icon Tech models get a 7in digital instrument cluster, built-in navigation and parking sensors."

I know its in daily mail but watch the video. It sums up why Labour and Corbyn's stance over EU is such a shambles. Nobody knows his stance on EU because he doesnt.. Or does he..??
Corbyn is anti the EU and has been for donkey's years. It's just very tricky for him to admit that what with all how many Labour supporters want a new vote or wanted to vote remain in the first place. He is trying to keep them all onside.

Once again after being bribed by the government, just like Nissan. The taxpayer is paying for them to stay and invest, but both have said that's conditional on the trading conditions being right.

Hence TM's desperate attempts to get her remain biased deal through, necessary to avoid WTO tariffs.

It is good news but hang on a minute why cant it be a British firm building, investing. Yes, Toyota will employ thousands but all the profit goes straight out of the country and its case with almost entire UK car industry.
Which companies are actually British owned, British investment and British managed. Morgan?? (who buy in American and Japanese parts)
We lead world in many aspects of Vehicle development, 90% of F1 grid is built 40 mile radius of Silverstone.. Yet we dont have a single major player.

It's actually a confidence trick, just a name change.

Long ago Toyota changed the name of the long lived Corolla to Auris, which I didn't think a good move. Now it seems Toyota have finally agreed and are changing it back to Corolla again.

So it's not new to Derbyshire, all that is happening is that coincident with the upgrade to a new model of the Auris which has long been made there, they are changing the model name back to Corolla.

The investment is just for the tooling for the new version and the government cash towards that just to keep them in Derbyshire.

Unfortunately this is only superficially true for two reasons.

Firstly the cars have long run on the all important foreign engines from mainland European companies. So on that key element we fail.

Secondly almost all of the rest of an F1 car is irrelevant for road cars. Even the way KERS is implemented is.

However, there is one succcessful and popular mass production car which was designed here in England, the Nissan Qashqai, which was intended to be made at Sunderland just for the European market.

It was wholly designed in Nissan's Paddington, London design studio, then prototype tested and refined in Surrey, following which it was at first only made in Sunderland. However its immediate huge success with the public quickly led to a 50,000 plus waiting list, so Nissan hurriedly installed an assembly line in Japan and later marketed it more widely.

Of course nothing is perfect so there are flaws in the story. The first one is that it used existing Renault/Nissan engines so no connection here. The second is that there were some obvious failings in the first version that ran for a few years, due to design inexperience.

The very high centre console, separating driver and front passenger in the interests of individual climate control was a mistake. It led to a terrible gear lever placement on the manual model and also some transmission whine of the sort that had been got rid of from cars pre war. Also it's a very heavy car which led to sluggish performance with the smaller engines, particularly the 1600 petrol which bogged down easily.

After some four years they launched the "New" Qashqai with some of those bugs designed out, particulary the centre console and gear stick errors. I suspect the Japanese may have done the revisions.

And now we have yet another "New" Qashqai for a second time, so hopefully the weight and performance issues have been addressed with the new engine lineup. I haven't been able to try one yet though so don't know more.

I wonder what persuaded them to do so?
When a decision like this is made against the trend, there must be a good reason to absorb increased costs.
The decision was made in 2017 remember.

Of course the "Bung" did help to sweeten the deal.

Interesting comment by Donald Trusk at the press conference today in Brussels. While it will come across as ill-tempered ,I suspect it was very much calculated to concentrate minds in Westminster., tomorrow.
Its "put your money where your mouth is time with Brexit"
No more Bluffing and prancing around.

I recently changed cars and was extremely impressed with Qashqai, quiet, drove nice, nice driving position and performed OK for what it was.. Lots of extras included... Reversing camera, heated seats (which I find pointless but boss likes them)
Ended up sticking with another XF... 2.0 180 R instead of 3.0...diesel.. Great... Mondeo has gone aswell... Gre at to 120k... Then problem after problem. (cutting out, going in limp home, ERG valve,twice...)Sold XF and traded Mondeo in...
This XF is nicest car I, ve had. Slower than previous XF but quick enough and handles better... Way more economical. 61 best. Averaging 45... Pity its Indian...???
Jag are now building all their engines. Older 2.0and 2.2 were Ford/PSA. Ingenium is inhouse...

Same as me Zlatan. Heated steering wheel great since I suffer from Raynauds syndrome, meaning my hands go dead with cold surface contact, but I can't see why heated seats are needed when a car is heated anyway.
