Correct, ..but is your experience shared by your coastal friends. The number of windless days ,I experience in Ireland can be counted on one hand.
You are right, the geostrophic wind is reduced by the friction of passing over land, less so over water. So for a given pressure gradient, the wind will be strongest away from the source of the friction, either over water (the sea), or away from land (elevated on a pylon). The key point is “pressure gradient” if there is very little pressure gradient, there is no useful wind. At this time of year we can experience extended periods when the isobars are widely spaced producing a slack pressure gradient, in these conditions, the wind turbines aren’t going to spin regardless of whether they are positioned on the coast or on top of a very high pylon. I think wind turbines are mainly a waste of time due to the erratic nature of their energy production. As others have commented, if we are going to rely on renewable energy sources, we should bite the bullet and do it properly via something like tidal turbines.

My goodness that is impressive,

but you have the extra electricity cost to factor in, when would you get a return on your investment?

and how about the noise, would it annoy the neighbours? !
Daughters looks and sounds just like an air con unit. Not noisy but very cold if you stand down wind of it...
Friends ground sourced is silent.
If I were fitting a complete system I would fit air sourced. Much easier fitting and since we dont have prolonged spells under - 5 they work fine.

"Brexit: UK ports to wave through EU goods without checks after no-deal exit, HMRC says
UK ports will wave through goods from the EU without checks if there is a no-deal Brexit to avoid huge traffic jams, it has been announced.

Tax chiefs have told 145,000 businesses they will be allowed to make declarations later – and postpone paying any import duties – to calm fears of border chaos.
The “temporary period” will last for up to one year at 20 of the busiest ports, says a letter from HM Revenue and Customs.

"We can take back control o our borders." and let is how many Container loads of illegal immigrants and possibly prohibited fully armed terrorists?

Make a terrific opportunities for importers to dodge Tax big time too!

Just scare tactics, surely.
We need a serious government not this lot.

Further, any health, plant and animal disease, etc., controls are being entirely left to the EU.

Just who will be held responsible when African swine fever, Foot and Mouth, or whatever other animal diseases appear in the UK? Will we be suing the suppliers in the European courts (country by country or ECJ)? Or accepting that lack of any controls is a foot in mouth own-goal?

That is exactly what I meant, about resiting the replacement unit. The original one vented unto a courtyard type space (Three high walls) , and the ice would remain on the ground for days after it had melted elsewhere. Now it vents into the wider space of the garden . A ground source unit is more efficient, not altogether silent as the compressor makes compressor noises but requires either ,an expensive bore hole, or basically an entire garden remodelling. .. neither options available to us, as the machinery would not have access. .. The garden and house are on a shale rock, with only a foot of top soil .
The air circulation fan can draw 180 watts

Is your Danfoss system an all in one unit outdoors or does it have a separate fan/air coil outside with the compressor indoors like this Nordic setup ->

although rear garden would be big enough ground source would also be out due to no access for machinery.

No. Ours is a Danfoss DHP AQ . The external unit contains everything except an electronic control panel . In our case, because access was through a narrow gate, we needed a unit under 80 cm in one dimension..and that severly limited the field of available units. There was an Oscher unit I quite fancied but it would not have fitted. My alley is just wide enough for the Motus and grazed hands.

If you are coastal,as I suspect you are, air source makes sense. HPI are the local NI and RoI agents and their resident installer person ,Amos, has a distinctly Armagh accent.

Maybe you don't pay for the Daily Mirror, but you definitely read it, otherwise how would you be able to make quotes from it , as in your post number 32,202?
Welcome to the thread! new posters are always welcome

Yes indeed I do, and all the other papers too. They are freely available in a condensed form online.
The World's greatest source of continuous fiction, with the British press leading the charge.
Actually that's not correct, as they Miss lead it.

What is the point of pointing out the obvious or have you linked inadvertently to an unintended post?
Was there one where I denied the charge of reading the Daily mirror?
Anything is possible but I have no recollection of ever saying that, perhaps you can point me in the right direction?
Was this the one you had in mind?

Don't confuse OG with facts though. He's not had his evening sherry yet and is probably still leafing through his copy of the Daily Mirror for information that lends weight to his complaints about Brexit and life in general.

I haven't drunk alcohol since the night of the Millenia, and have never bought the Daily Mirror, but then as usual you jump to the wrong conclusions

This is what I denied "and is probably still leafing through his copy of the Daily Mirror"

Has that clarified the situation for you?
