'We are at WAR' Brexiteer warns EU is 'intent on Britain's Brexit DEFEAT'
AN ardent Brexiteer has declared that Britain is at "war" with the EU who are the "enemies" of the nation "intent on our defeat" during Brexit negotiations.
Max Gammon, a lifelong Brexiteer and Ukip supporter, declared Britain's fight to leave the Brussels bloc as a "struggle for freedom", warning that Brexit was currently under a "deadly threat". During a passionate speech to the Bruges Group, a eurosceptic think thank in Westminster, he accused politicians of "failing" to tell the people the "crucial" issues at stake", saying: "They have given us a false picture".
Mr Gammon said: "We are incapable of bringing ourselves to understand a deadly threat to our freedom, indeed a threat to our very existence as a nation."

He said EU bosses calling for the UK to Remain in the bloc despite the nation's vote to leave were the "words of an enemy, intent on our defeat"."

He's wrong of course, many of us do perceive a deadly threat to our freedom, for what more of a threat can there be to be deprived of citizenship of the EU and free movement therein?

Not practical nor based on sound economic theory.

This idea that 'self-sufficiency' is good - something the Greens are continually trying to brainwash us with - is economic pap. What generates wealth is trade. Trade. You do what you do best - I'll do what I do best - and we trade. THAT is the economically literate way to do things.

Plus this idea that the balance of payments being negative is bad - more economic pap. The balance of payments I have - for example - with my local shop is all one way too (ie negative) - I buy things from them and they never buy things from me. So what? Its a total red herring encouraged by the likes of Trump who think having a negative balance of payments with China means the US is poorer. The man is an idiot. It means the US CAN AFFORD to buy things from outside. Doh. A negative balance of payments is just fine.

The next on 50Hertz list of nonsense is the idea that 'more jobs' is a good thing. No. Jobs are an economic cost to us. Being efficiency-driven animals (ie lazy) what we want is the most stuff for the least effort. Jobs - in economic terms are therefore a cost to the system.

We want more stuff from less effort - jobs are an effort.

Again its the Greens lobby who have gotten to people here. They say things like a green economy would create so many jobs - which in fact means it would take MORE EFFORT to get the same amount of energy. Instead of freeing those people up to work on a cure for cancer or a new 4D holographic computer interface - they have to work generating energy. Doh.

Mind you - most people don't get this. Somebody calculated that you could generate enough energy for your house if you spent 20 hours a day on a treadmill with a generator attached - creates a lot of jobs right? Jobs are not the goal.

There was something else he said that showed a lack of understanding when it comes to economics 101 but heck it's time to walk the dog.
A nicely argued position, but with one flaw. Economics is a means not an end. My illustration, almost as valid as your corner shop is. If I bake a loaf of nice wholemeal bread and eat it, I achieve the necessary end goal..satisfaction and a full tummy. But no" economic good". If I buy my loaf of loaf of bread,, perhaps poorer in composition , certainly more stale, from a shop, I have performed an economic good.

Another flaw is that people without the education or skills to cure cancer or work in high tech jobs could be employed installing green energy equipment. French economists now widely accept that it was an error to destroy 2 million industrial jobs by outsourcing to China. Instead of paying taxes those people are now hanging about on roundabouts and generally being a cost to the country.

If I spend £1.01 for every £1.00 that I earn, I go bust.
Unfortunately it is far too late to change people without major trouble.

Poor people simply get into debt, they neither understand nor can afford the process of going bankrupt
"People in the UK owed £1.616 TRILLION at the end of November 2018. This figure is up from £1.569 TRILLION at the end of November 2017 – an extra £898.71 per UK adult.

if those two million people are asked to vote in a similar referendum, they'll vote out.

The SM needs a social component.
the EU needs to do something about this and urgently.

They are bust, bankrupt. Many households in the U.K. are bankrupt in reality, but on credit life support. That is what enables them to maintain the illusion of wealth with such things as the white Range Rover Evoke lease car. I hope no one pulls the plug.

This is another reason why I switched to Remain. IF jobs disappear, what happens to the debt? The whole house of cards comes down and that will affect those who have been sensible with their finances.

The European Union
It needs a Compulsory Social Component
Not ones subject to opt outs as we did
I think the EU will be able to work towards that social component once rid of the UK.

Oh and once the policy on migration is sorted... 7 government leaders arguing about what to do about a mass invasion (!) of 47 migrants this week - not very encouraging.

How many times have we heard it is NOT about immigration?

Geoffrey Chesters was supposed to be helping at his daughter’s shop in Crewe on Wednesday, but he was engrossed in a book about money-making schemes, bought for £1 at Nantwich market. He’d reached a chapter entitled “How to become even richer when everyone else goes to the wall”, and was learning how to survive financial apocalypse.

“Look at this,” he said, pointing to a paragraph about negotiating a banking collapse. “This is what’s coming.” He’d been stockpiling tins for months. A no-deal Brexit was going to make everyone poorer, he said. But it was worth it, if it meant the UK got control over immigration. That’s why he voted to leave the European Union: “We’ve got too many of them coming over here and I want it to stop.”

Maybe you need to go back to school - and study something called 'statistics' - it's when you realise one example of a sample means 'fkuc all'.

Whether we are Leavers or Remainers the one thing we can agree on is the embarrasment of Theresa May,going back to the EU with her begging bowl again. I don’t understand why she seems determined to placate the minority of the ERG ,rather than reaching out to the majority of the Tory party who clearly favour a softer Brexit and staying in the customs union, will find favour with a lot of Labour MPs at the same time.
KudosDave
And they STILL don't get it! Staying in a 'customs union' IS NOT BREXIT!

Doh.

It's like breaking up with your GF and saying 'but we can still have sex yes?'.

No! You can't still have sex!

So long as they can cover their interest payments - it's fine for now. Interest rates though HAVE to go up - the pension funds are getting killed so there is only one way for it to go. So it's obviously not a good idea having debt that is not on a (manageable) fixed rate of interest.

'Deluded' Boris Johnson Shut Down By Sky's Beth Rigby In Fiery Brexit Exchange
"It's not happening, it's not happening."
https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/watch-boris-johnson-being-called-deluded-by-sky-news-reporter-beth-rigby_uk_5c5165a6e4b0f43e410c831b?ncid=other_flipboard_loanehh4xwc
Former foreign secretary Boris Johnson was squarely put in his place over Brexit negotiations live on Sky News last night, as reporter Beth Rigby called him “deluded” to his face.

Despite flat rejections of her plea to reopen the UK’s ‘divorce’ agreement with the EU, Johnson insisted Prime Minister Theresa May is now in a position to “go to Brussels and get the freedom clause that the UK needs.”

An incredulous Rigby interjected: “Just as she rides off on her unicorn to Brussels, the reality check landed in my phone, this is from [European Council president Donald Tusk]’s spokesperson: ‘The backstop is part of the withdrawal agreement and the withdrawal agreement is not open for renegotiation. The December European Council conclusions are very clear on this point…’”

Shaking her head in amazement, Rigby then tells Johnson: “You lot are deluded, it’s not happening, it’s not happening.”

An increasingly flustered Johnson fired back: “With the greatest respect to Donald Tusk, it takes two to tango. There is a negotiation going on. You would expect him to say that, but believe me, the EU has every incentive to give us the deal that we need.”
Boris is right. Why take her side? Because you already made your mind up! DOH.

What an utterly pointless stupid post. It really does devalue the thread.0
I, m sure we could find an armed robber or perhaps even a murderer to associate one group or another with.

We seem to be back to square one. All leavers are racists... again... Pathetic.
Yeah - he's usually one of the more rational posters (within reason) - but that was plain dumb.

Sorry to heavily edit your original post, but those are a couple of sentences with which I whole heartedly agree. I think Brexit COULD cause interest rates to rise to an unsustainable level for many. Again, another roll of the dice with quite severe consequences if the right numbers don’t come up.

Is what we stand to gain worth the risk? I don’t know the answer to that.
