There is general suspicion as you have indicated in your post tilson that public foreign aid isn't going to the people it should be going to.
It's far more than a suspicion, indeed it's not actually intended to go to those who need it. As OG says, foreign aid is bribing to get business and political favour and long has been, so the aid goes to the recipient's wealthy establishment, it's why they became wealthy.

No point in giving aid to the poor who can't give us export orders for armaments etc, and have no political influence.

I, m in India (Goa) at moment. Looking for pastures new... (A rival already has a base here)
Amazed at how interested folk here are in Brexit... All pretty much without exception saying why don't you just leave with no deal. Place is stunning. After sailing... Had 2 cokes, a large beer, a G and T and 2 superb chicken Tikka... Total £5.75..(there were 2 of us)
It's like Spain was 30 years ago but with less bureaucracy and corruption ..
People friendly, air temp 32,water 23, Had superb wind till 3 ish... Gorgeous cheap food. I won't be going back to South France, Northern Spain. And locals all speak English.. 10 hour flight but worth it...
Yes, my sister lived there for several years, but visa restrictions meant she could only stay six months at a time. The other six months each year including the monsoon season was spent high in the mountains of Pakistan using that restricted visa.

Important news...
As reported today, an opinion from the Advocate General of the ECJ , suggests that the the UK can unilaterally take back their Article 50 letter. The AG provides advice to the ECJ, and is followed in 80% of rulings. A definitive ruling will emerge in perhaps a fortnight.
Seriously this is a game changer, and puts the ball directly back in the UK s court.
I heard it on Radio 4 this morning.
It does open the door for parliament to 'postpone' brexit.

At moment Brexit reminds me of that kid that climbs up to top block of diving board, walks to edge and stands there. Darent jump off but won't climb down. Every body in baths is shouting jump or come down... but he refuses either. Tottering on edge feeling worse and worse with a queue building up, all shouting FFS make your mind up.
Its not the jump or the climb down that does the harm... Its the indignity of the wait that's harmful.
We decided to jump. Right or wrong good or bad we should be heading for the water. We aint. Too many folk screaming at the kid.
No we shouldn't we should realise how stupid a mistake we are about to make and abandon brexit

There's a precedent for this from the legalisation of homosexuality long ago. In 1954 the government of the day appointed Lord Wolfenden to hold an inquiry and report, guaranteeing that they would respect his finding. Then in 1957 he reported in favour of legalisation.

But the government then was nervous about such a change so it was sat on for ten years before the change was finally made in 1967.

Today's government could do the same, stating the referendum will definitely be honoured, but in due course when ready for it, rather than immediately.

They are literally trying everything to reverse Brexit.

Everything.

The one I find the most strange...well by strange I mean transparent is the utter backing by the Lib Dems and the remainers of the other 2 parties saying what a good deal Mays nonsense is.

Then you get the EU saying we can withdraw A50 and just pretend we never had a vote.

So brazen in its complete disregard for British democracy it's almost unbelievable. Until you remember it's the EU and you're not allowed to leave.

I'd have agreed but for this last line. We can leave, no problem, but we can't be better off than being a member.

The EU told us that very firmly and clearly before we voted, so we knew the position in advance and Leavers shouldn't have believed different.
.
After brexit you can remove UK worker protection, environmental protection, food security whatever you wish. Just don't expect us to buy your stuff any more.

Simples!

It's not about being better off in the short term per se. No one with a brain expected us to leave and all of a sudden our cows would be shitting gold. But we did expect some sort of fairness.

I personally would leave on W.T.O terms as it stands today. Its the only way to get them to negotiate a realistic deal with us.

The EU have not said that... . In fact the EU respect for British Democracy is greater than any you have displayed yourselves.

The EU did not interfere with the referendum. EU countries did not offer opinions..Perhaps we should have.

A group of British parliamentarians, approached the ECJ and requested a decision on the legality of the finality of the Article 50 letter. They did this in response to the democratic wish of their constituents, in Scotland who believed they had been short changed,. They were flusterated by the British state apparatus,in being allowed a hearing. The news this morning is that a senior official of the ECJ has offered the opinion that the decision of the UK, can be withdrawn and only by the UK,and in conformance with the British constitutional provisions... Note British not EU.
Anyway that officials opinion is not the decision, but generally defects the way the court would decide.
..on that point a detraction and apology is in order.
As I have said before, it is all in UKs court.
As for respect for democracy.. the DUP may or may not reflect NI democracy. We simply do not know. They have had no Parliament there for two years. The Parliament collapsed there, because of corrupt activities, currently the the RHI inquiry.

Indians eat more than just the kind of food you might see on the menu at your local curry house. I have eaten food prepared by Indian families countless times in Southall and their cuisine is just fabulous.

Tom
At last. Something we can agree on.

we can pay the bill and leave on WTO terms, the EU won't stop us if they get their money in the next 10 years.
If we want the two year transition period, we have to accept the backstop.
No backstop, no transition.

The timing was a mere coincidence if course...

No backstop, no transition.

The backstop in its current drafting is unacceptable to us.

So no deal. It really is as simple as that.
