New battery technology. If or When?

It will be interesting to see how well the new cells work in an ebike application. BH have been a bit hit and miss in the UK market, so that may mean it will take a while before there are many users of a BH bike with the new cells.

CCyclotricity Revolver and battery range with current standard battery

Andy detailed his experiences in various threads, of which this is one. Note the word 'more' in the thread title, never good to read when it precedes the word 'problems'. http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/more-cyclotricity-problems.27403/

CCyclotricity Revolver and battery range with current standard battery

Forum member Andy Bluenose had no end of bother with his. That was commuting, which is hard on any bike, but it broke down far more often than should be expected. Put another way, the bike earned the nickname Cycloatrocity.

Bike like Kalkhoff Agattu but not?

The battery behind the seatpost design is old, and there were never very many crank drives which used it. Bergamont can help with a Bosch bike which has the battery in front of the seatpost, but derailer gears only by the look of it. Or a Bosch bike with a frame mounted battery, hub gears, and...

Just been shopping! Cube Reaction Race 500

As said, rim width within reason doesn't matter. Fractions - even decimal fractions - of an inch are irrelevant. The Big Apples will be fine from a width point of view. The cross section of the Big Apple will be bigger, so frame clearance needs to be considered. As it's a mountain bike...

Just been shopping! Cube Reaction Race 500

There are bottle cage mounts on the seat tube, and enough clearance to fit a standard cage. Plenty of choice of road orientated tyres from Schwalbe and others. A Schwalbe Marathon tyre with a shallow tread would be a good bet, they are famously robust and rated for ebikes. If you wanted to...

    introducing the KTM Macina Fold

That's the point, it's not clear from the image how this bike folds. It may be like my AVE, which I describe as a semi-folder. The frame is rigid, but the front wheel spins through 180 degrees, and the handlebars flop down against the frame.

    introducing the KTM Macina Fold

Some have a stand, some don't. Depends on the design. Bromptons, for example, do not because the back wheel 'folds under', keeping the chain ring proud of the ground.

Belt drive, so there wouldn't routinely be a chainwheel guard other than a slightly over-sized disc fitted to the front ring.

New battery technology. If or When?

There are other releases from BMZ which talk of them being part of a consortium to build a 'giga factory' for the production of lithium cells in Germany. The first release about the new cells was more than a year ago, and it looks as if we won't see an ebike battery with them in until next year...

New battery technology. If or When?

The BMZ Etron cells look promising, and also much closer to being available. They are talking about a 30 percent capacity increase, weight for weight. I see BMZ have put out a handful of press releases in the last week, so it looks as if they are gearing up to properly launch the new cells...

New battery technology. If or When?

The Tesla cells (could be a song) have been mentioned a few times. They look to be a step forward, but from a few posts on here I gathered they are not suitable from a technical point of view for an ebike application Production at the plant is committed some way ahead of time, so even if a...

    New Bikes

In the spirit of the good general advice already given, you need to have a careful think about how the bikes will be transported and stored. Ebikes are fine to ride in poor weather, but they don't like sitting out in it. Inevitably, cover will be at a premium in a motor home setting. Unless...

New battery technology. If or When?

Batteries are being developed, but relatively slowly. When I first started looking at ebikes in 2011 most companies were using lithium batteries of around 400wh. Fast forward six years and capacity has increased to, commonly, 500wh, although those packs are slightly heavier/bigger than the...

    Opinions on these 2 bikes

Carrera ebikes suffer from a cutting out problem which Halfords seem unable to cure, so you would be taking a chance on getting a reliable one. Greenway buy a few pallets of bikes, flog 'em, and the same model is rarely seen again. I've never heard of the Bewo motor so cannot comment about it...

    An Apology (of sorts) Carrera

Your Crossfire experience mirrors that of many others - as far as it's possible to judge from what's posted online. However, I doubt the Crossfire is much worse than many other £1,000 Chinese ebikes. Buying another one could be seen as the triumph of hope over expectation. Given your budget...

David Couthard on an electric bike ........!

I'm sure one of the current F1 drivers did a promotional pic of riding an ebike in the paddock of a track a couple of years ago.

Looking for advice to buy my first bike

I think you need to try an ebike to see if the commute is doable for you every working day. Fourteen miles across Greater London is quite a hike. Riding responsibly - stopping at lights and so on - it will take you over an hour. I suppose that might compare favourably with public transport...

New member advice on new ebike please

The moral of your story is not all crank drives are created equal.
