Just took delivery of my first e-bike and guess what...

Be careful which road whippet you take on. Some of those lads can give a decent burst of power for a short period, so might be able to climb faster than you.

    Wisper eMTB sneak preview

Prices from £3K+ to £6K do look high. I don't doubt the bikes are good spec, but I reckon it will be a hard ask to get buyers to pay as much - or more - for a Wisper than for established eMTB brands such as Trek and Haibike. Then there's the possibility of the Chinese factory doing what some...

I need a tougher rear wheel...

Fifty commuting miles is hard use for any bicycle. But your overall load isn't that high, and you should get good wear from a Marathon Plus, which is a famously tough and long lasting tyre. I would contact Spa Cycles in Harrogate, outline the proposed use, and ask them to build a wheel. This...

    brakes

Instructuons on the website and yes, it is a bit of a fiddle. You could try 'burping' the brake. Level the lever, take the lid off the reservoir and lightly pump the lever - you may see air bubbles rise through the fluid in the reservoir. No syringes needed, but you would need some brake...

    Oxygen E mate MTB13AH

I've tried various ways with Bosch and never seen a spark, but nor do I know what is best for the system, or even if it makes any difference. In your case, I'd be inclined to go the spark-free route. The days when batteries gave off lots of flammable gases are probably gone, but I've seen a...

    Oxygen E mate MTB13AH

Owners of Bosch, and probably Yamaha, Steps and Impulse, bikes would give you an argument about that. I've done about 10,000 miles on three Bosch bkes and have never seen a spark.

    Cycling in the Rain!!!

A front mudguard with a proper, deep - but slightly naff looking - mudflap will keep your shoes all but dry. By deep, I mean a mudflap that extends to within a few inches of ground level.

    Chainrings - is this correct?

That link is for an outer of two rings. I don'r know if the OP's bike has one or two rings. E-bikeshop won't supply unless the OP bought the bike from them. Spa is a good supplier of this type of stuff, but the OP will have to do some measuring...

    EBike Chains

Very few of us will exert 'increased pressure' on the chain. A weak or moderately fit rider + a legal motor = no more and probably less strain than that exerted by a fit rider on a push bike.

    Freebies from Bosch

Pah, I've spent about £9K on Bosch bikes and they didn't give me a sodding water bottle.

NEC Cycle Show 2017: Wisper e-MTBs, Swytch & other highlights

Posting styles aside, it appears there may be a problem with the latest Shimano eMTB motor over heating. The answer 'we've fixed it now' could be true, but it does rather smack of a Kalkhoff/Impulse response. And like Impulse, I wonder if part of the problem is trying to screw ever more power...

What are my rights with faulty e-bike?

Could be a genuine or could be a fob-off. I would have asked the lad if he was 'authorised' to take £900 for a purchase.

Riese and Muller Charger GX Rohloff

I've only done the odd 15/20 mile stretch in eco, although I reckon the bike would do 60+ miles per battery. Hub gears - even Rohloff - reduce range, and the podgy 2.4" tyres will take a bit of shoving along. The Performance/CX motor is a bit more power hungry than the Classic, although it is...

    Advice on bike purchase

Power consumption is case specific, but as a general point barelling along at 18/20mph will use a lot of juice. I doubt an 11/13ah battery would do your round trip of 40 miles. Woosh mentioned a 17ah Rio, which might be your best bet if only for the battery capacity. The woosh Big Bear has a...

    Advice on bike purchase

The Radon bike is out because Bike Discount don't ship complete ebikes to the UK. Although curiously, they sent me a Bosch battery on its own. The Oxygen looks slightly better made than the woosh, so I reckon it's worth the extra few hundred. Both bikes have good back-up, although woosh...

    What cranks on Bosch?

Yes, the ever reliable Bike Discount has a choice. As regards the OP, I agree something's not quite right if he's routinely clouting the ground. Crank lengths vary by only a few mms, so I can't see shorter ones making any difference. https://www.bike-discount.de/en/shop/cranksets-17871

New battery technology. If or When?

The Bosch marketing lass wins the 'mention my product often' award. And being realistic, she's the only one you'd want to take to dinner.

Rides illegal machine - kills pedestrian & blames her........

Alliston being a courier is barely relevant, and in any case his claimed employment has been called strongly into question. Seems he worked for a few days as a courier, despite telling the jury he had done the job for eight months...

Pine martens. An unusual use for e MTB?

Good stuff, and you have a bit of a story to tell. It's the type of thing I imagine the BBC would use in one their seasonal wildlife watch series.

Riese and Muller Charger GX Rohloff

Just under 2,000 miles now and all trouble free. However, when I went to ride the bike this morning the thumb switch wouldn't adjust the assistance levels. Amps, where I bought the bike, no longer deal with Riese and Muller, and in any case they are a long way away. I enjoy a good...
