Electric bikes are a "menace to little children and society"

I think you're missing the point that in NY ALL ebikes are illegal, regardless of speed or power. Also, the ban isn't driven by safety concern - it's not a response to someone doing 25mph on the sidewalk - it's motivated by greed and protectionism - how dare someone use a FREE mode of...

    Project: ghEttoBIKE

1st piece of advice - ditch the lead acid batteries - they have no place on an ebike.

    New build.

Quick update - with the nice weather the miles are really racking up - just passed 2000 miles this morning. Only part replaced on the bike is the cheap pedals - the bearings wore really quickly and the cages kept throwing screws resulting ina horrible creaking noise - upgraded to some nice...

    600W power supply installation

Right cwah - get yourself a UK spec kettle lead, cut the kettle end off, strip back the wires and fit these:- and properly heat shrink them. Advantage of ring terminals is they wont "pull out" of the connection block, leaving a live 240v cable to wave about. Then connect them to your...

    600W power supply installation

CWAH - I'll take a pic of my Meanwell S-350-NES when I get home - it has connections like you have. I used a kettle lead and stripped the ends and fitted them with ring terminals - have a look at the pic when I post it.

You know the bend of the spoke is suppopsed to go into the "deeper" side of the recessed hole don't you? I.e. don't put the spoke head in the deeper side.

    36V vs 48v efficiency.

It's worth noting that higher voltage batters suffer less voltage drop - so they maintain the motors top speed and power up inclines/into headwinds more effectively*. Take note of cwah's comments on motor efficiency - if you up the voltage you want a lower rpm motor (unless like me you're...

Gears, How Many is Too Many?

I have 27gears on mine but I only ever use the big ring at the front. Even with 9spds at the rear however I still find myself wanting a couple of the ratios to have another gear in between them to maintain a nice cadence. Might upgrade to a dual chainset and 10spd close ratio rear.

Photo guide (3 of 3) for 8Fun kit conversion of Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc

If you adjust voltage with adjusting the current limit though you do by definition vary power as well. i.e. 36v @ 10 amps = 350 watts drawn. 24v @ 10 amps = 240 watts drawn. So not only at 24v will you have a slower speed, you'll also have less power.
