2012 Haibike eQ Xduro FS arrived

I'm not giving it up for a bike - it's just that I never have the opportunity to drive it. My work office has moved nearer to where I live so I no longer have a nice country drive route to work anymore and driving through the middle of Blackpool is horrendous (hence the electric bike).

    Tongxin motor troubles

Yup - sounds like the outer ring has cracked. It can be replaced - the trick is finding some that can do the work.

Securing lights - any tips ?

Yeah, my MagicShine lights get removed and popped in my backpack if I leave the bike anywhere contentious. I used velcros straps not zip ties to secure the cables to they can be removed easily.

    Need for speed

All cars have this - it's called a driver* *Although different makes and model have varying intelligence :-)

need to hear pros and cons of buying an electric bike with front wheel hub motor

Maybe the solution is to not turn too sharply? Stating a bike has handling defficiencies when it's actually the way it's being ridden is like me saying the Westfield has a handling issue because every time I pull out from a junction with the accelerator buried in the carpet I end up going...

    A2B Hybrid - off road ?

The legal issues isn't about keeping the bike under the ebike speed limit. The legal issue is concerned with having a bike that isn't capable of exceeding the ebike speed limit. For example, if you have an ebike capable for travelling @ 25mph under electric power/assist then that in itself...

How hard can it be ?

Wheelbuilding Just get the bits and build it - no procrastinating! As far as how many wheels have failed whilst I was learning - none ;-) they are all still going strong - even an ambitious snowflake pattern I did at college (16 years ago!).

USA losing it's love affair with cars!

Spoilsport! For the record, the Westfield isn't insured or MOT'd, but I haven't driven it since October :-) Insurance is only £190 a year on the Westy and it does 40mpg :-) Super environmentally friendly as well seeing as it's built out of recycled parts :-)

USA losing it's love affair with cars!

Do people even still pay for insurance and an MOT anymore? I don't bother - I just make sure I don't crash or get pulled over by the Police.

And you thought our e-bike laws are tough!!

You're quite right Tilson, I seem to have tripped myself up there with a circular reference. Aww c'mon, don't admit defeat so easily :p I think I'll bow out with:-

Nice. Could consider converting a road bike with this.

And you thought our e-bike laws are tough!!

A COMPLETE disregard for the law? I think you're making assumptions - where have I said I have disregard for everything? I think "you have shown contempt for the current UK ebike legislation" would be more accurate. Contempt != disregard. It is you that is mistaken - see my comment...

And you thought our e-bike laws are tough!!

No, I do not mean house insurance. As above - I'm not talking about house insurance. Have a look at the insurance the CTC provides. Oh, and for what it's worth your thrid party element of your house insurance DOES cover you for public liability even when in a motor vehicle - it's just...

And you thought our e-bike laws are tough!!

So, is attacking the person rather than the argument now considered the correct way to hold a civilsed debate? Bravo sir, bravo! That goes for you too. I suggest you both look up the meaning of argumentum ad hominem and come back when you're ready to have a proper debate.

Well Flecc, they used to say that about motor carriages with men and red flags ;-)

And you thought our e-bike laws are tough!!

Yup, and one day we'll look back and laugh at the current ebike law and think how silly it was.

And you thought our e-bike laws are tough!!

Yes, that's another issue - if a law is going to be actively enforced it should be enforced with uniformity and fairness across all counties. As far as those deriding those who break the ebike law all I can say is a hope none of you shave or mow your lawns on a Sunday ;-)
