Do ebikes take the fun out of cycling ?

My cycling mileage has increased dramatically with eMTB. I rode to club ride last night from work then home afterwards, 55km total, club ride was 15km offroad. It must of been beer afterwards as I was cruising around 28-30km/hr (above assist cutoff) for good part of return ride. On manual bike I...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

The latest Kalkhoff Agattu bikes are now using Bosch Performance Drive. I suspect it is reliability issues of Impulse drive that drove the change, because they wasn't enough difference in performance between drives to justify change. Plus battery integration was better with Impulse.

    eMTB buying advice

There are significant price jumps between classes. Sounds like a 120mm XC will do you fine.

    Is an ebike for me?

I've always worn a helmet and my wife's crash proved how important it is. She had low speed crash just cycling at 10km/h on smooth cycleway, front wheel caught edge of path and she did a face plant. She had massive black eye and was slightly concussed. Luckily I'd just bought her a new helmet...

How long should a chain last on a E-MTB

I've stopped using these chain cleaners as risk of getting degreaser into mid drives bearings is to great. Now just wipe chain down and relube with finishline, 1000km so far on CX drive with lot off road.

    SRAM eMTB specific drivetrain launched

I can see 11-42 10spd becoming popular for eMTBs.

    400 vs 500 Battery?

400wh is fine for commute, for longer rides £200 will buy lot of coffees or beers while topping up your battery. If it is eMTB buy 500wh.

    Is an ebike for me?

Removing battery and controller should help deter thieves. Without these items they won't be able to sell it.

    eMTB buying advice

The Cube Stereo 120 HPA Race 500 can be had for £3000 (cubestorescunthorpe.co.UK) equivalent of Xduro 6.0 which is £4,4. I think spec level on Race is slightly higher than 6.0.

Which tyre upgrade on the Trek Powerfly

If you do replace tyres make sure back is ebike rated, see schwalbe range. The plus is you also get stronger side walls, less chance of snakebite. My bike came with Hans Dumpf, done 1000km on hard summer ground and lot of road work. Holding up well, swapped front for another tyre I had as I...

    eMTB buying advice

The Cube are far better value. Cube Stereo Hybrid 120 HPA Pro 500 27.5" 2017 - Electric Bike Pro is £2900 and better components, go up to Race and you get even better shocks and brakes. Pro brakes are perfectly fine for forest riding and can be easily upgraded if need be. Haibike tend to be...

    SRAM DualDrive

For commuting I'd ride in higher ratio, allows for decent downshift at lights when I stop in hurry.

    Noob Torque question

Gear changing on factory mid drives is not really an issue. Just back off while you change, doesn't take long to get hang of. In case of kit Bafang mid drives, there are kits that detect gear change and reduce power to motor. They use a sensor on gear change cable. NB Bosch drives also support...

Haibike 2015 SDuro rc Or 2016 sl

In case of 2015 with speed sensor modifications, its mileage will be considerably higher. This modification will give indicated speed of 10km/hr (pedal cadence) regardless of bike speed. I would assume x3-4 higher mileage.

    Repositioning speed sensor

The speed limit is legal requirement, it shouldn't effect reliability of drive system, especially if Yamaha have designed it correctly. A sustained climb up steep hill will put more strain on drive system and that can happen on unmodified bike. NB this modification will not work on Shimano...

    Thoughts on Carrera Crossfire-E

That battery is a bargain compared to replaced Bosch ones.
