Just completed my first ride on the Trek Powerfly 5 FS on a mixed tarmac and off road route, the latter through some woodland and over very wet and boggy fields, with a total ascent of 2200 ft. I was really impressed with the available power, and staying in Eco or Tour level of assist, I managed 20 miles with three out of five bars battery capacity remaining. It was great fun and so good to get off onto the hills by myself and no traffic. I had forgotten the joy of off road biking.
Traction on the tyres however was a bit iffy, though it was very wet.
I have read of people quickly making an upgrade from the supplied Bontrager XR3 tyres.
Being out of MTB activity for some time, could folks advise on whether it was just the conditions, or would a change in tyres significantly help? Is so, what would they recommend?

If you do replace tyres make sure back is ebike rated, see schwalbe range. The plus is you also get stronger side walls, less chance of snakebite.

My bike came with Hans Dumpf, done 1000km on hard summer ground and lot of road work. Holding up well, swapped front for another tyre I had as I wanted keep Hans Dumpf for rear. Haven't put them to test in muddy conditions but they do roll well on road for a knobbly.
