    Ni Cad

Not having been able to get out on my bike today I have been fretfully trying to read up something about batteries on the web. The curious thing is that the more I read the more does it appear that the early nickel cadmium batteries had a great deal to be said for them, and were overtaken by...

    Agattu Agattu.. wherefore art thou?

I begin to feel almost guilty that my Agattu came so speedily, Tom. If your diamond job is as good, when it comes, I'm quite sure you will feel the wait has been worthwhile. And at least you are missing some are really cold biking weather!

    Tricycles

trikes illogical but . . . All you say is so true, Flecc. Cornering is a real problem. Here in Felixstowe many older roads have a heavy camber which is a sod on a trike. The tires scrub and wear quickly. You will gather that I rode one for a while. It was an ancient tatty affair with the one...

    Tricycles

Fascinating, Capn_Phil68. I had never heard of this before. There are definitely things to be said for three wheels. And against of course!

    My first puncture!

Puncture Bad luck about the flat. I hope you will let us have the details when you get them. Not that anyone else intends to get a puncture mind you!

    Tricycles

A few years back I thought I would not be riding on two wheels again and I looked at trikes. I never could feel that I would enjoy recumbents, but I always liked the look of this continental model the Trisalu. What a suitable frame it would be for conversion to a Panasonic driven electrotrike...

    Seen anything strange lately?

horse bike I saw a young woman on a damn great horse wearing a bike crash hat and one of those bike visibility Sam Browne belts. She happened to be holding the reins just as one holds a bike handle bars. It was more amusing than it sounds. Wish I had had a camera with me.

    BikeBins and Agattu

I now have a pair of BikeBins from the ebay dealer and this is my experience of using them with an Agattu. The units themselves are clearly very well made and also look good. I am impressed with the quality of the fittings which are sturdy and look hard wearing. Unfortunately they do not fit...

    Agattu tyre inflating

Thanks, Citrus. I had never even heard of the beast (not that that is surprising), and thought it was a standard Presta type even though there was no screw down to allow the pin to move. But I have always used a car emergency battery device which also has a tire pump to pump my tires, and this...

    Agattu tyre inflating

Standards - damn them Panic over! I was too impatient with the foot pump and trying to use a car type schrader pressure gauge which clearly doesn't work. Why oh why don't we have standardisation??

    Agattu tyre inflating

Blush - Could someone whisper to me how to pump up my new tyres?? They are presto type valves and the last of that type I had anything to do with used valve rubber! There is a pin inside the thing but screwing on my Shraeder adaptor doesn't seem to let air in, and neither can I make the supplied...

    Winter Maintenance

    >>Three in one oil on chain A couple of years ago I innocently mentioned on a cycling forum that I thought the Scott oiler was a good idea for a bike. I was held upside down, severely shaken and kicked into touch. Apparently the revealed truth there was that chains should never be oiled as...

    Rohloff hub

too much tech Ahh! Very interesting, Flecc. I had rather assumed, from all that I've read of it, that it was more or less the creme de la creme. I often think nowadays that there is a lot of technology for the sake of it - we must do it just because we can - sort of thing. I have out in the...

    Winter Maintenance

I didn't know he had said that. How very apt. He was quite a lad. I've read his major things all my life - dozens of times probably, and, as with Jane Austen, enjoyed them more each time.

    Rohloff hub

I saw a light weight expensive looking bike outside the local library today with what I think may have been a Rohloff hub - the first I've ever seen if so. I looked distinctly bigger than any gear hub I have seen. There was lettering on it but I couldn't see to read it and didn't like to...

    A good laugh

I've been reading again Jerome K Jerome's "Three Men on the Bummel." If you are up for a good belly laugh do take a look at this. Every word is worth reading. Three Men on the Bummel by Jerome K. Jerome - Project Gutenberg

    care of sprung forks

Thanks, Flecc. That is reassuring. I have been trying to sort out the German in some of the stuff I got and I'm all of a gewarlleisachtungwarts! I was looking at those forks this morning and wondering if I ought to have done things to them before starting to ride at all. In spite of my weight...
