    Tongxin motor bearing longevity

Other than a light 'graunch' noise when I spin it backwards, mine has been fine. Currently on about 400 miles with road and light trail riding. Yes, there is a slight drag but nowhere near as bad as you seem to have

    The plan so far.

In which case come and have a go on my Transeo; white frame, no throttle, proper mountain bike design with front suspension... ;-) Hope to see you on sunday at the show

    The plan so far.

I can happily recommend the Cytronex approach as I have had one for the last 6 months. I bought a GT Transeo 1.0 as a commuter bike and for dragging a kiddie trailer around and its been solid - bike with kit is light (well, compared to others) at around 18Kg and it does exactly what I want; a...

Are these tow trailers really safe in the dark?

Just to add to the debate - I wouldn't take a kiddie trailer around London but a lot of the B roads around here (where we end up with the arrogant lycra crowd being 4 abreast) I wouldn't worry to much about. Otherwise I have the faintly ridiculous problem of having to load a car up with two...

Are these tow trailers really safe in the dark?

Just bought our first kiddie trailer (Chariot Cougar2) but will stick a couple of the 1W rear LED lights onto the handlebars when I am out and about - even during the daytime. Most of the roads around the village will probably be ok but will be mainly using it around Epping Forest or on other...

    Cleat problems - Shimano SPD

You will be amazed how quick you learn to move your heel first - after that it becomes second nature.. Set the tension really loose - there is no need to have it strong and you want it so that whenever you move your heel out (not up and down) that it disengages.. Trust me - its easier to do it...

    Cleat problems - Shimano SPD

Heh - when I used to downhill some 20 years ago I used to use cleats as it kept the bike attached to me :D Wouldnt swap - first thing I did when I got my new bike was to swap out the pedals ;-) If you are serious and want to make it really easy then have a look at CrankBros Eggbeaters - my...

    Cleat problems - Shimano SPD

Wot Cakey said.. I have the same pedals on both my bikes and a pair of Specialised MTB trainer-type shoes - bought a new pair of cleats last week but if your shoe already has the holes then you dont need the backplate. (random photo nicked off the web) Do them up tight so that they cant...

    puddles and potholes

Got the same problem with some of the roads in Epping Forest - the roads have cracked so there are 2-4" holes running 90degrees to the curb which forces you at least into the middle of the road... Most of the time the other drivers are ok but there have been one or two who scare the bejesus out...

    eccentric cranks ?

It was a Shimano invention 'back in the day'.. Biopace - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia was also on the first bike that I imported from Canada when I first got into MTB's. I was fit then so not sure it made a whole heap of difference ;-) Still have some spares in the toolbox ;-)

Another Newbie (in Herts) overwhelmed by choice of bike

Paul - in the same boat as you although I had a different set of criteria.. The one thing that everyone told me was to get out there and try as many bikes as possible. I would take John up on his offer try a couple. Use the links off the main page to find some other dealers and try their...

    [Thieves prevention] Spray the bike?

Erm, you do know why the bikes are white dont you? Its to remember a cyclist who has been knocked down and killed... While it might stop someone taking your bike there is a slight chance that you would be lynched when you unlocked it and rode it away... Just a though!

    Nearly-new Cytronex model

That is basically the bike that is being built for me at the moment.. But why on earth would I buy 2nd hand and save myself £100? Somehow I doubt that it will sell.....
