    PAS sensor (KT-V12L) install issues

I have always found the integrated PAS to be a bit of a pain. Too tight and the unit internals will wear out in short order. Too loose and the unit won’t work properly. Get hold of a two-piece PAS, much easier to install and pretty much bulletproof.

    Carrera Crossfire help

Sounds like wheel bearings. Fixable, but you will need to crack the motor open, press the old bearings out and acquire new ones to refit. Don’t these online places offer some sort of warranty/guarantee on their bikes? If so, let them sort it.

bike commuter looking to switch to a hybrid ebike

Average weight, not too hilly; go for a 201rpm rear hub motor kit - with a 36v 10ah battery, you should be good for 30miles + on a charge. With some pedalling, you should hit 20mph. The whole kit will weigh around 4kg or so.

bike commuter looking to switch to a hybrid ebike

The fx2 is a great base for conversion. The disc version weighs less than 12kg to start with. A rear hub motor, pas, controller, display and battery will set you back around £300-350. My Specialized hybrid with a rear hub motor weighs 13kg with battery - it does have carbon forks and I...

    newbie . am I making a mistake?

You should be able to pick up a well looked-after Vulcan, with hydraulic brakes, for around £200. Motor and battery another £400 on top of that.

    Yose power kit

Do Shimano still supply the bearing spacers for the hollowtech system? I seem to recall getting 3 with my XT crankset. If so, you can buy an 8-pole PAS online for £6, and then take out a driveside spacer and replace with the pedal sensor. The magnet will need to be epoxyed to the inner chainring.

    Yose power kit

And changing the length of the bottom bracket axle will mess with your chain line and ability to tune your gears. And if you are using a front derailleur, it might not have the reach to shift the chain to the large ring.

    Yose power kit

If you get a separate disc/sensorYou might be able to epoxy the magnet ring to the inner chain ring. Probably need to take some material from the centre of the magnet ring though.

Advice wanted for DIY Welsh commuter (Trek FX conversion?)

The Trek is a great base for conversion. Rear hub motor and PAS, with a 36v 10.4ah battery should set you back around £300-350 and be good for 30 miles on a charge. Once you get the bits, should take a couple of hours to put it together. I am not sure about the exact weight of the fx3, I...

Help! First e-bike Halfords or DIY?

The Subway is a good shout. Size wise, you should be able to find a frame to fit. I’ve seen a number of Subs for sale round my way - you could pick one up in really good condition for a touch over £100. I think a new one with hydraulic brakes must be around £400....

Help! First e-bike Halfords or DIY?

I always think you should start from the point of having a bike you want to ride. Then add the motor, etc. There are some great-looking, great-riding, purpose-built ebikes out there, at various price points. If I was building my own ebike, I would start with a good quality hybrid and build in...

    KT36ZWSRMT-LCD Controller

Yes - thanks for the reply. A lot of controllers have a female connector for the PAS, and the sensors have the male connector. I have managed to find a supplier who sells sensors with female connectors.

Is the PAS connection from the controller a male or female JST?

    Wire split

The pins will likely have little tangs on them, to hold them in the connector. You will need to use a mini flathead screwdriver to push the tangs down, so each wire can be removed from the connector. Then you will need to put new pins on the cable and then relocate in the connector. A mini...
