    Chinese Mid-Drive Crank Motors

Hi woosh, if the Bafang Max Drive ebikes that Andy88 has posted images of, are Max Drive bikes, then I fail to see how they can not come to market here in the U.K. for around £1000. Or am I missing something.

    Chinese Mid-Drive Crank Motors

Hi Woosh, I expect the Bafang Max Drive Ebikes to have a street price of £1,250 based on an RRP of around £1,500 although I don't expect to see product until the Spring of 2017, those prices are conservative, if the volumes are high enough then a street price of below £1000 is not beyond the...

    Assembly Tools for Bike

Yep Flecc, working for Ever Ready was a job that I really enjoyed, I first started as a mobile rep with them, and was posted to various locations around the UK, to cover for holiday and sickness, before getting my own territory. But when Hanson Trust took over the firm in 1982, the writing was...

    Chinese Mid-Drive Crank Motors

Yep Andy88. I have a good feeling about the Bafang Max Drive, although it's probably just a hunch. So long as the proprietary frame, can accomadate future iterations of the motor all will be well, as motors wear out and future replacements need to be sought. My aim would be...

    Chinese Mid-Drive Crank Motors

Thanks for that update David, just a pity that the £ has bombed, will keep my fingers crossed that a bunch of containers arrive from China next Spring stuffed with Bafang Max Drive Ebikes of all shapes and sizes!

    Assembly Tools for Bike

Yep Flecc, I did 5 years from 1980 working for Ever Ready, one of some 400 reps covering the UK, 8 of us alone just to cover the Manchester region. No company car, just a Bedford FG Van that ran on Petrol 5mpg on a good day! Bicycle shops were some of my best customers, the Ever Ready cycle...

    Assembly Tools for Bike

Yep Andy88, a good event to visit is the Cycle Show, that is held at the Birmingham NEC each September.

    Assembly Tools for Bike

The problem with many premium bicycle components is that to gain a 10% increase in performance there is a 100% increase in price. So common sense would dictate in buying the lesser product. Of course that theory goes out of the window, if a lesser component fails, mid way through a long cycle...

    Assembly Tools for Bike

Yep Andy88 when I built my bicycle back in 2004 I used a SKF Stainless ISIS Bottom Bracket, back then £50 but today's prices are well over £100! If you can find one even. I have read of SKF BB's still being good after 17,000 miles, no wonder they came with a 10 year warranty. Sadly the Swedish...

    Assembly Tools for Bike

Yep, think I will hang on for a Bafang Max Drive, unless I get flush and go for a Bosch motor ebike. A Pedal Spanner is a lot thinner than a regular spanner, maybe just 3mm with a slight offset at the business end. Back to the value of that bike you have just bought, I also noticed that the...

    Assembly Tools for Bike

Yep Andy88 quite liked the look of that Bafang Max Drive bike, with a bit of luck there should be a few containers of them arriving in the U.K. come next Spring.

    Assembly Tools for Bike

Amazing value, when you think that the Chris King Headset on my bicycle would not be far of £100 to buy to day, let alone the Frog SpeedPlay Stainless Pedals!

    Chinese Mid-Drive Crank Motors

I seem to remember a trade member on here saying that importers of Chinese ebike's are to see a hike in tariffs on imports comming into the e.u. If that's the case, then the Bafang Max Drive bikes will end up being overpriced, it's a pity really as a Bafang Max Drive ebike, could get a lot more...

    Need help with Ebike choice

I can't see a problem, plenty of folk out and about on Brompton's and I think they use a 16" wheel. I like 26" wheels, although my Son who is a bike Tech, tells me that these day's only cheap Chinese bikes come with 26" wheels, 27.5" is the flavour of the nation at the moment with 29" coming a...

I am sure David at AMPS means Max Drive and not Maxi Drive, showing your age with that one David!

    Need help with Ebike choice

Yep Andy88, I guess the race is on to bring a Bafang Max Drive CD bike to market at a sensible price, I am guessing sub £1,250 will be the sweet spot. May the best ebike retailer win, no pressure then!

    Need help with Ebike choice

Nice photos Andy88, and thanks to woosh for some input, how long before we see the Bafang Max Drive on bikes from woosh I wonder?

    Need help with Ebike choice

Yep d8veh, I am not to bad at tinkering with bike's I even had a hand in the design of mine and a couple of other Rohloff specific bikes. Son (31) is a Bicycle mechanic, for a retailer and we have a fully kitted workshop here at home. Looks like eBay here I come, for my Bafang Max Drive ebike!

    Need help with Ebike choice

Yep d8veh, I would agree for a bike with a kit type CD motor lashed to it, but for a CD bike with a specific motor like the Bafang Max Drive or Bosch even, you normally see prices starting at close on £2000 and upwards from there.

    e-Fatbikes

Yep, spotted a fat ebike in our village the other day, it did look the dogs, it has to be said, but I would imagine riding one of the none electric fat bikes would be akin to some kind of medieval punishment for the rider! Definatley not for me though, I ride a rigid none ebike through the...
