    short list

That Cube in Row's Linky ticks all the box's for me, Sliding Drop-Out's and the 2017 version has the CX motor. Fully rigid is how I like things, I think I may now have found my ideal ebike. Very nigley compromise for me would be the Belt Drive, and Nuvinci Hub, but I could live with that...

    short list

Loving that Cube, IGH is what does it for me, and I still can't understand why any ebike still comes with antiquated Derraillure gears. Personally I would swap out the Nuvinci for a Rohloff, I notice that the Cube has Sliding Drop-Out's that also is a plus. Pity that it does not come with the...

    Ebike vs Road bike

Yep, soundwave, those roadies are often more fit than a butchers dog!

    Ebike vs Road bike

Interesting question from the OP, my take is that an ebike would be left standing by a fit rider on a road bike or hybrid, unless the route included a few hills, on the flat the none ebiker would be ahead. This is the problem with UK ebike law, it is but an ass, for a true faster commute to...

    The best legal ebike kit

Yep, the Roholoff is a great bit of kit, not as expensive as some folk think, got mine new back in 2004, just £500 back then. That's around 13 years ago, and runs better now than when new! I started of with a SRAM Spectro P7 with built in Hub Brake, and that's still going strong 20 years...

    Batteries too expensive!!

Interesting 1boris, £200 for a 60 cell pack, giving 17.5Ah, no BMS but it just shows how over priced the Bosch battery packs are, even at half the price they would still be over priced. This why I think that the Bafang Max Drive bikes will be a runaway success, as the BMS is in the motor, and...

    The best legal ebike kit

When I was on the cusp of ordering a BBS02, I soon realised that this was great news, that you could have a 500w motor that was badged 250w. Electric is strange stuff, and due to the physicals of the 500w motor put into 250w mode, would probably provide more Torque than a BBS01 250w due to the...

Best model MTB for BBS01 Crank Kit?

I am not yet an ebike owner, so have to stick with pedal power alone, most I ride in a day is 50 miles, mostly road on a touring bike, sometimes with 20kg of kit. My take on an an ebike is what will do more, will do less, so I would choose a 90nm Torque bike, over a 60nm Torque bike any day of...

    Batteries too expensive!!

Yep Mike, I agree and I am waiting for the right Bafang Max Drive bike to come along, at least then the cost of a decent 15ah 500w 36v battery will be a more sensible price, and having a spare will be a simple affair. I will definatley be giving the Bosch and Yamaha equipped Ebikes a swerve.

    The best legal ebike kit

Clear as mud, think I will wait until I can get my hands on a Bafang Max Drive ebike, and save on the faff of doing a lash up with a Bafang 8fun kit.

Best model MTB for BBS01 Crank Kit?

Very nice the Cube at that price, although it does have the lower 60nm Torque Bosch motor, although the Bosch CX motor is not a lot more at just 75nm Torque. The Bafang Max Drive offers 90nm Torque, which should make for some serious hill claiming on a par with the Yamaha motors.

    The best legal ebike kit

Em3ev will supply a Bafang 8fun BBS02 36v badged as 250w although it is the 500w motor, but programmed to 250w. So the kit is UK legal, and should things change in the future, you can reprogram for 500w. Em3ev ship the battery's different to the motors, but if ordering both at the same time, I...

    Batteries too expensive!!

Yep, good news, and these new Panasonic/Tesla cells will be a game changer. I wonder when we will start to see the new 2170 Cells appearing in the Bosch battery packs etc, it can only be a mater of time.

Best model MTB for BBS01 Crank Kit?

I was thinking of doing the same, then someone on here posted about the Bafang Max Drive CD motor. With a bit of luck, Bafang Max Drive Ebikes will start to arrive in the UK later this year, and I recon £1,500 should get you a complete bike, that looks a lot neater than what a BBS01 lash up...

    Yamaha 500w battery 2017

I agree with RobF, as at this current point in time, Ebikes are relatively niche, but I am hopeful that will change. The new Panasonic 2170 Lion Cell, will be the highest density Lion Cell in the world and also the cheapest, not my words but from Elon Musk himself! So that will be the death...

    Yamaha 500w battery 2017

Yep soundwave, I guess that says it all. I have asked my Son (31), what price he can get the Bosch batteries for, and this will be interesting as he is a Bike Tech that works in a retail bike shop, that does the Haibike Ebikes etc.

    Yamaha 500w battery 2017

Manufacturing cost for that Yamaha battery and is probably sub £200 including cells and electronics. That leaves a kings ransome of a margin for the manufacturer, Distributor and Retailer alike, nice business if you can get it. It's all about to change though, as battery cell production is...

    36T front ring for Bafang BBS01 BBS02

What about dumping that rear cassette and installing a Rohloff IGH, that should give you the gear range you are looking for.

    Chinese Mid-Drive Crank Motors

Yep, d8veh. All that I know is that when I shipped 3 bikes in from Tilon (X'CND) based in X'ian Provence China, the price was a fraction of that being charged in UK for Titanium bikes. OK they were not complete bikes, just Frame, HandleBars, Forks and Cranksets, so not far of...

    Chinese Mid-Drive Crank Motors

Yep folks, some good points on pricing. I am lovin the "Ultra Drive" but at 1000w will that not render it illegal to use in the UK, I did not notice a 250w version. The 160nm Torque of the "Ultra Drive", knocks the 85nm of the Bosch CX into a cleft cap, although it is unfair of me to compare...
