    ebike build from scratch

I am all ears because I have one of those to mount on the Mxus. I am hoping the faithful Acera will be up to the task - 2 bikes and 6000 km so far!

What's the best way to strip insulation from very thin wire?

With a craft knife roll the wire very gently under the blade to break the surface but not cut completely through the insulation then pull off with fingernails. The basis of working with electronics is to have a long nail on your index and thumb!

    SRAM E-matic

For that there would have to be a bike that has it... It is OEM only and I have never seen one in the wild. Production stopped quite a while ago - http://www.bike-eu.com/sales-trends/nieuws/2017/2/sram-stops-remaining-internal-gear-hub-production-10129065

Throttles why do they go bad so easily?

We would never have guessed... The CA does stuff I need and probably too much stuff I don't need right now. When I get older (already grey) and graduate to throttles it probably be on my shopping list.

And another CX motor bearings bite the dust!

IP67 on LCD and controller housing would be a great step forward.

Why did you buy an e-bike ?

Vélomobile/cargo trike: 1. check! 2. cargo trike - can do! OK one at a time unless they are small children 3. check! two bags of shopping inside the vélomobile is on the design brief and there are several Euro-palette options for cargo bikes 4. cheat mode a.k.a. a throttle is an option...

Why did you buy an e-bike ?

Finnish birch ply, a bit of spruce and a smidgen of carbon fibre. This is my current inspiration: The nose bothers me, I think I will have a channel in the middle so that I can see the road and the light/air entry hole will be higher up at about motor level. The other advantage of the trough...

Why did you buy an e-bike ?

As a card paying member of the working poor I can't afford a car. I live in an area with pathetic public transport - expensive, strange timetables..., but which is adjacent to an area with great public transport. My first thought was to bridge the 13 km gap between here and there. Then when you...

Why did you buy an e-bike ?

There was a survey on here a while back before you joined, @flecc will find the link ;) I didn't buy an e-bike I bought a kit, then a second... Last year I did end up buying a tricycle, does that count? :p

Need help choosing a bike for 19 mile commute

I wouldn't take on a 64 km commute on anything less than an s-pedelec, they have the right components for the job. Second choice would be to build a bike fit for purpose with a powerful hub motor like the Q128 and a big battery either 52 or 48v. Most long distance commuters I know of are on the...

    36v 30q Samsung battery

Nice find! I'm pretty sure they would build you a softpack battery to your spec if you ask nicely.

    Which LVA

Inside a box which is inside a pannier and in heavy traffic not quite loud enough.

    Which LVA

I use the LCD voltage readout most of the time because alarms aren't loud enough in traffic. I have a 4S Multistar brick which, while not dangerously unbalanced, isn't as good as i could be. It always gets an alarm. The top ones are good to the 0.01v and set to buzz at 3.65v:

    bbso1 250w max speed change?

5 levels is plenty. 3 levels would be enough if the controller was correctly programmed for them.

    Which battery do I get?

Bike Purchase Advice - 22 Mile (one way) Commute

Putting a battery on the rack will mess up your handling, the weight is too high, especially 17 Ah ones. If you don't want it on the frame a solution is to slip the battery into the pannier it gets the CG down lower to about axle level: The next step for the bike above is a custom battery...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

IIRC we have been down this road before... The EU has organised a meeting, that is what they have done. As for sanctions that is a national government problem not a EU one. Sovereignty old chum, sovereignty... Did you notice that all of those countries going to the meeting and not enforcing...
