Failed on my first big hill

what do you mean by what the bike can do? are frame shape, suspension, brakes, gears, throttle, wheel size, weight, accessories more important than the motor and battery?

sorry, I meant to say a CD would suit Gooner, who just had a heart op.

yes, I have seen a few cases when the person was a regular cyclist, so not seeking to avoid gear change. somebody who is ill or weak could use a throttle. But besides a throttle, CD lets you trade speed for torque when needed whereas you don't have that choice with hubs. Ask Hatti to let you do...

Failed on my first big hill

there are cases where I would recommend a CD rather than a big hub. Gooner on the other thread has a heart condition. A CD will let him limp home whereas a hub may be too weak.

that's oversimplifying. the formula for the energy stored in the coil is 1/2 * LI2 (inductance * I square). Every time the motor moves to the next pole, that energy is converted to mechanical energy. It follows that the power of the motor is directly proportional to its RPM. The BPM motor...

flud, you failed to see that the Wisper 905 Torque offers the customers more than a regular Bosch CD bike does. It has both torque sensor and rotational sensor, controllable at the push of a button. It reminds me of the old BH Neo that had a switch on the handlebars to switch between the two...

Looking for my first electric bike

Gooner, it seems to me that you need a bike with enough power to take you home without your leg input. Depending on your weight and how hilly where you ride, you may be OK with a regular e-bike like the Halfords Carrera Crossfire-E or the Woosh Karoo if the hills are less than 7%. On hillier...

Fitting disk brakes to a frame without tabs

I put one of the a2z disc mount adapter on a bike a couple of years back but had to take it out after I found that it slipped a little after a few days. The thing is a box and works a bit like a glove. It would be better if it had been made it a bit bigger with tabs that you can drill and bolt...

    Fat Bike

woosh develop two models, one with crank drive, the other is straightforward rear hub drive. The hub drive is indeed cheaper. Woosh have postponed the project until after the referendum because the exchange rate is poor against the USD at the moment, they are hoping for a remain vote.

flud, if you compare the two bikes, your Haibike against the Wisper 905SE torque, then most of what you said is applicable. But if you generalize your comments, then they are not.

From Zephyr to Big Bear maybe?

the BPM motor is big and very powerful. It will take a little time.

From Zephyr to Big Bear maybe?

keep assist level low, 1 or 2 and use the throttle when more power is needed.

I don't think they need to ship it from Ningbo to Queensland then from Queensland to Hounslow. They develop the bikes in QLD but not manufacture there.

    Leaving the EU

I watched Emmanuel Macron on Marr's show this morning, very articulate man. If only our politicians could express themselves in a foreign language that well, may be we wouldn't be where we are. There is clear blue water between the two camps. If we remain in the EU, there will be more...

    Leaving the EU

I think most brexiters like myself feel profoundly European but are simply not keen of the federal Europe.

apparently, there are about 12% floating voters, like jimod and d8veh. With both sides at neck and neck, they will be the deciders.

    Winnats Pass.

I wouldn't know the answer to that. Personally, I like a CD with a hub gear like the Zephyr-CDN, 20" folder. It's easy to take with me in the car on holiday, easy in the woods and it climbs more or less anything.

    Winnats Pass.

yes with your 52WH consumption. They can easily do that, especially with the XD motor. You have to race on a hill with average gradient of over 14% to beat the XD and a strong pedaler like d8veh. Every time you change gear, you lose a bit of momentum. The problem with CD in a race is the time...
