    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

Totally agree. If only.... See my post above.

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

Compared to the rest of the UK there are not nearly as many ebikes in use. Apart from that the logistics of getting those folk with their bikes into the centre of Belfast would be difficult to say the least as cars and vans would be needed for transport from all corners of the country. I...

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

I have been referred to the original document from the DVLA which seems to state that these restrictions / regulations apply to "twist and go" electric bikes. (Throttle operated) It would appear that they don't apply to standard pedelecs which are powered by pedalling, with a bit of assistance...

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

Hi Guys Sorry for the clumsy attachment, hope you can read them. It is becoming a lot more complicated now and if it is to apply in this part of the UK I am assuming that it will be proposed in the rest of the UK otherwise we have a discrimination issue. We may need your help soon.

Police say electric bikes illegal in Northern Ireland

GP says stick to the Fentanyl - and it's legal in my case  PS we miss our bikes, good simple easy times hurting nobody.

Police say electric bikes illegal in Northern Ireland

For those of you guys who are still interested in this saga may I include a reply from the PSNI received this morning. "Having given due cognisance to the media interest surrounding the use of electric bicycles in Northern Ireland, Roads Policing have recently issued the following by way of...

    electric bicycle weight

Mine was front wheel motor with cradle frame and battery sitting between the tubes. Brakes were woeful compared to my hydraulic discs now. Battery had to be reconditioned and the company supplied a custom made box sent to owners, battery packed off and it would be returned in the same box in...

    electric bicycle weight

I remember when living in Leigh I bought a Powabyke, with throttle control and little or no pedal input - but there was little choice back then. I believe the shop told me that the police were either using them or trialling them for use in Hyde Park but I was never able to confirm this and put...

Do I remember the police using e-bikes to patrol Hyde Park or was that a failed trial?

    electric bicycle weight

Thanks for that Tommie. It is very close to the info I was getting from old mates from the RUC who still have an ear to the ground. If there was ever a "grey area" in N.I. this is one of them. Nobody wants an incident at any time and just because I rode fast motorbikes for 35 years I always had...

    electric bicycle weight

Two more letters to power and two replies both stating that some sort of assembly needs to be in place which confuses me as there is nothing to debate! The law should be as it is in the rest of the UK but my advice still is that the PSNI are obliged to uphold the ludicrous law as it stands and...

Tommie are you out on your bike this weather? Given any thought to the ongoing "illegal" aspect?

Thanks to both of you for the info. I had never heard of slime but thought if it works why not, however I suspected it would be a messy and unreliable product. We have Kenda puncture resistant tyres on both bikes and keep a high pressure.

I was going to ask if it was a good idea to fill my current tubes with Slime to prevent punctures. Some say it should be used to repair a flat at the roadside and others say it should be installed to prevent possible punctures. Anyone with any experience? For 60+ years I have been a sticky patch...

    It's Summer, at last.

All the talk of good cycling weather can I ask any Northern Ireland e-bikers what they are currently doing as regards using their bikes in the light of the lack of clarification over legality please?

Thanks LP, that's the one and trust me it really is the business. I say again, how is it only £28??? I have used it many times and the quick release clamp, joints and legs are as good as new. The fold up operation including the flat feet is a work of art. Very clever.
