    Is Speed Dangerous?

The answer is still 'no'. It's the extreme deceleration and inevitable impact that is dangerous. Regards.

    Another cyclist seriously injured

But what's the difference in the number of people cycling since 2009? A figure of 7% is kind of meaningless without knowing otherwise as it can represent an overall increase or decrease or, in fact, no change at all.

    Hub Gears

I've also found that it feels like it's grouped into four lower and four higher ranges rather than a smooth transition from 1 to 8. This means there is a noticeably larger step between 4 and 5 than any other gear.

    Is Speed Dangerous?

Your argument is so flawed I hardly know where to begin. It fails to take anything other than speed into account. Accidents on the road and the resulting seriousness of any injuries are a combination of many factors including speed. Clearly, injuries sustained from an accident at 10mph are...

    Hub Gears

The Alfine 8 speed hub is noted for being much smoother and with a quicker shift than the Nexus, and Alfine 11 is supposedly better again. The 11 is silly money though...

    The bike range question

This is very true. I do a 19 mile round trip commute most days and always have the throttle wide open.

    Hub Gears

Yes it does. I've had an Alfine 8 on my Cannondale for a few years now and for a hybrid bike I wouldn't consider anything else (other than the 11 speed version...) Matt.

    Backpack Battery quick release connectors

I've done the same as you - mounting the battery pack and controller in a rucksack. I originally did it as a temporary measure but I'm going to keep it that way as I think the 8.5kg battery pack is better there as a central and sprung weight than strapped over my back wheel. It's also pretty...

    Backpack Battery quick release connectors

XLR connectors might be suitable for you. It's possible to get up to 16a per contact rated ones too that would be more suitable for the motor wires. RS catalogue stock a somewhat larger range of stuff than Maplin, you should be able to find what you need there. RS Components | Electronic...

    Backpack Battery quick release connectors

Will they need to be waterproof or will they be hidden away from the elements?

    Unassisted Riding

I suspect it varies from one to the next. I've converted mine with a front BMP and to begin with felt the same. After around 100 miles on it the hub seems to have freed up and has little to no noticeable drag.

    Is Speed Dangerous?

There is a shared use pavement/cycle route in/out of my village and I won't use it. As most of it is going past houses there is a huge danger from cars sticking their noses out of driveways before the driver can see if a cyclist is coming. Even riding at 10mph presents a serious chance of diving...

We are thinking of bringing these to the UK, what do you think?

I think they look really quite smart, the individual components look (as far as you can see in the video) to be of good quality. The attention to detail seems great, for example the battery case with power button, that makes it feel like a well thought out and put together product.

LBS strikes again -- and spokes query

You'll just have to resist the urge to bunny hop off the curbs :)

    Is Speed Dangerous?

I don't think it's clear cut either way to be honest. Being able to keep up with traffic around town is safer as it allows you to position your bike where you need, especially important on those right turns on roundabouts. The flip side is that higher speeds on my powered bike (27mph ish)...

Fastest speed on an e.bike.....just for fun

I'm not ashamed to admit... I have speed envy :)

Fastest speed on an e.bike.....just for fun

All the nutters are coming out of the woodwork I see :D A *measly* 32mph for me, though this was reasonably flat and with a bigger chain ring at the front I reckon I can get a few mph more.

Finally got my kit build running!

Sure. It's a front 500W/48v BMP hub in a 700c rim but wound for 20", 48V 16Ah LiFePo4 battery, universal controller all from BMSbattery. It's fitted to a 2008 Cannondale Bad Boy 8 with an upgraded front disc rotor. I'm currently doing some cable tidying and swapping some of the plugs over to...

has anyone switched to a road bike after using the elecs?

I've enjoyed cycling from when I was a kid, did the coast-to-coast ride when I was 15 and commuted every day rain-or-shine when I lived nearer work. I've always enjoyed cycling even if it's just a commute to work. Then I moved out of Cambridge and the commute distance was a bit far to commit to...
