    De-restricting a cheap kit

That's a fair point, but you need a good distance to make meaningful gains if you're only getting marginal speed increases for some of the time. Depending on wind conditions, my quickest (un powered) run barely dipped under 15mph at all and my slowest probably around 30-40% of the time to around...

Finally got my kit build running!

My commute is 9.2 miles one way, 9.4 the other (have to drop daughter off at child minder in the morning so I walk that bit with my bike) None powered best/worst 30mins/36mins Powered 24mins (only done one direction so far) It's certainly cheaper than driving my rx7 in to work. It's really...

    De-restricting a cheap kit

It's the 500w 12mosfet universal controller from BMSBattery. I've got a home made arm just on one side at the moment of the pipe-clip variety. I'd seen one on here that mounted to the front pannier eye, but thought a bolt small enough to fit would shear easily. The drop outs are 7mm in...

New York cyclist fined for not cycling in cycling lane...

US cyclist gets fined, gets mad, decides to only travel in the cycle lane. No matter what gets in the way.... YouTube - ‪bike lanes‬‏

Finally got my kit build running!

After all kinds of delays that, it turns out, was due to a dead cell in my battery pack I finally have my kit build running. New cell arrived from BMS yesterday, fitted it last night and went for a quick & scary test run in the dark. Did first full commute to work on it this morning and I have...

    De-restricting a cheap kit

I was in exactly the same situation as you (although on a decent hybrid with a slightly lower av. speed). I'm happy to peddle hard but wanted a quicker commute for the 19mile round trip, clearly the 15mph kits give nothing in this situation. I did a kit build, converting my Cannondale Bad Boy...

How true and centered are BMS Battery wheels?

Mine has a bit of a wobble in it. Nothing to be concerned about, but it's annoying to have even a slight kink in a brand new rim. The other issue I found was that it should have been dished. The spoke mounting points on the hub are significantly off to one side, so to ensure a centralised rim...

    BMS Battery, your eperience?

My BMSbattery saga continues. After a recommendation from them to change the BMS it actually turns out my new, unused battery pack has a dead cell. Not 'a bit' dead, properly 0.04v dead. I'm somewhat unimpressed at the moment.

    Kit build woes continue...

I wondered briefly about trying the phone charger method often mentioned on endlessSphere, but it seems to be for resurrecting cells at or around the 2v mark. I think this one is fully dead to be honest. Not sure where the 17 wire goes on the new BMS then... I only have two 8 pin sockets on it...

    Kit build woes continue...

So, after hearing from BMS battery that I probably killed the BMS with the charger I had my new bits arrived today; a new BMS and a 400W 48.5v 6A charger. I stripped down the battery pack. This is the BMS currently installed: This is the 48v 16Ah 16 cell LiFePo4 battery pack from...

    BMS Battery, your eperience?

Excellent! I've ordered some rosin cored stuff. Also a 100W Draper solder iron (cheap on Amazon if anyone else needs one) as my current iron can't heat the larger joints. My dad passes on his thanks - he hadn't thought to look on ebay for it either and moans endlessly about the lead free stuff.

Security lock that deflects power tools

Cambridge is getting better to be fair, but provision for cyclist in town has historically been quite bad given the amount of people that cycle. Also, a friend of mines bike was stolen from a locked compound with cameras at a previous office. Initially security couldn't be bothered to trawl...

Security lock that deflects power tools

I've used a Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit short-length D-lock in combination with an Abus Grannit chain/padlock. Not sure which chain/padlock the abus I have is, but it's the sort of size you'd expect to see on the front wheel of a moped. It's kept a grands worth of bike safe on the...

    BMS Battery, your eperience?

Excellent, thank you for the info. :) Just need to find some proper solder with lead in it (or take d8veh up on his kind offer)

    BMS Battery, your eperience?

Well... I ordered a new 30-60A BMS and a 400W charger from them a week ago at the most and it's just shipped. I nearly fell off my chair :D

    Sods law

I cycled the 9.5 miles from work to home yesterday for the first time. (Car in for MOT and e-bike build awaiting parts). It's not rained here for months. It didn't rain all day yesterday either until I cycled home, and it stopped as soon as I arrived. Not just spots either, proper 'can't see...

    How fast is your bike?

But again, the issue of whether or not a bike is restricted to the legal limit is irrelevant in this case. Selfish and dangerous riding is just that whether it be on a leg-powered bike, restricted e-bike or none-restricted e-bike. Your rather loud assertion that de-restricted bike...

    How fast is your bike?

Technically the top speed of mine is zero, since it's waiting for a new BMS... however it will be capable of more than 15mph. Personally I think the debate in terms of pure legality is missing the point. It is perfectly possible to ride dangerously on a restricted e-bike and indeed on a purely...
