That doesn't seem too difficult a glueing job to do neatly, because the cone is topmost and the glue is behind it. Looking forward to seeing the completed repairs!

Seems easy to stick them misaligned! Fear of shitty resulting noises is why I've avoided replacing foam surrounds for my Acoustic Research AR 38s 10" cones. That and not being able to source the correct foam surrounds.

I can't stand ported bass - it huffs at certain frequencies, not accurate. The sealed cab ARs sounded great.

Thanks - the last time I searched, there were a couple of different foam surrounds discussed, and the best sounding was supposed to be Celestion - the sonic test results were said to be similar to the originals. I may consider repair again, or they might simply continue to hold a huge pile of books straight.

Good luck with your repairs, I'd be interested to hear how that goes!

decent ported speakers cost a fortune esp front firing ones like mine as why they have those wave guides ;)

The foam surrounds have to be correct - in my case, AR 38s woofers travel a long way back and forth (not ported bass), so unless the foam is as flexible as the originals, they won't sound the same. I may look into buying German, if I can.

With tweeters, jeez if the foam is wrong they'll sound bloody awful. I reckon you're right, just very slow drying wood glue on paper cones... DON'T USE THEM TOO SOON! How soon? Dunno.

whats original both must have been redone.

id leave them 24hrs with washing line pegs all round the outside of the driver to clamp it solid b4 you leave it.

the driver will need time to bed in so dont hit them full blast and brake them in slow.

it has just started to go tacky now ;)

Even if they sound a bit off when repaired, there's an app for that:

...there's also a microphone for sampling the speakers and room.

And they may sound awful because they've been repaired with inflexible foam, for all we know. I won't be refoaming until I find bloody good foam surround replacements with solid reviews.

Hmmm... maybe I should get a small motorised turntable to apply glue neatly with, was going to get one for photography....
