It took me 5m 50s to upload a 440mb file to Youtube using Smarty = 1.26 megabytes per second. That'll do Smarty, that'll do...

25gbps is 2.5gb
BTW - There are 8 bits in every byte, not 10.

On a different note, does uploading stuff to YouTube work for you? I realise we all want different things, but a friend who's a therapist used youtube to try to promote her way of working and I gather got very few hits. One thought that occurred to me when I witnessed that was that most punters might take to youtube, like I do, to watch shuffle dancing, car crashes, pink floyd or vatniks t72's taking direct artillery hits (ie nothing serious)

It's convenient video sharing for friends and family, and Youtube functions well for sharing private invite only videos for their amusement. Making money from Yotube is an entirely different, and almost completely futile proposition.

Google's algo on Youtube is very partial to subscribes and likes, increasing the rankings of videos which have one, the other, or both. It can be faked until a video makes it - paid views and likes etc; pretending to be oodles of different people, using VPNs and suchforth. Best it all happen rapidly too.

@jonathan.agnew - do you ever venture outside of "General chat"? I don't recall ever seeing you anywhere else, apart from on the cricket. Uploaded this recently. Play it and make me millions.

Ironically I realised that an pedelec (after I built and bought a few) are the worst possible thing that could happen to me as I get older (the kind of assistance that makes my body less able, prevent calorie burn). This epiphany came after a stone burning break in calabria on a profoundly inefficient old Brompton that paradoxically left me much leaner, happier. That's by way of rationalising the not venturing outside general chat. Early retirement has also paradoxically become bloody busy. Shades of cohen's ring the bell that still rings - realised doing less would probably trigger an unhelpful meltdown, so less time for anything else.
Never occurred to me to use youtube for private friends family video, it's a thought. Am somewhat phobic of putting identifiable stuff on www, can have repercussions that can be unhelpful.
How's the move to the new place, the slow running?

Yep. My ebike made me fat alright. By about 3 stones. Previous to converting I did a heck of a lot of walking between bus stops, train stations, taxi ranks and work. Some nights the only option home was a bloody long walk of 10 miles or more. That sort of thing thins, and I was fitter for it. Quite honestly I was thinking of selling my bike, but it's too much fun to ride... provides rapid and zero effort change of scenery.

Threads elsewhere frequently meander into territory you might enjoy.

That was one of the main motivations for it's creation. If your therapist friend needs promotion, Youtube could be used that way exclusively, but becomes expensive to be effective. Best bang for buck is a Google Maps listing, with the website featuring video embedded within it, reinforcing marketing information, providing material in a more quickly relatable way than text. Most small businesses don't need much promotion, and don't need to be featured prominently in search engine organic listings, because Google Maps listings are featured above them on search results (on Google, which about 90% in the UK search using). Good job too, otherwise many businesses would be completely wiped off those first few pages by the big players, who invest heavily in Search Engine Optimisation.

Could be a horrible topic of conversation from your point of view, but I trust the divorce is going ok? Avoid becoming homeless, it happens often to men after divorce, that and alcoholism etc. A friend was going through a divorce and boy was that a mess! His missus started knocking him around. Was almost homeless, had to use foodbanks etc. Can be a very rough road. Three years on he's moved to Bali and got married again (third time), has a new daughter. He's older than his father in law.

Yes, life's too short for commentarding. It's ironic that after successfully avoiding facefsck and it's ilk all these years, I find myself here, expending far too much time and wearing out my keyboard.

Painting on glue neatly for jobs like that, is really hard! Best buy a couple of kits, just in case.

I’ll refer your email over to our drive unit production manager – I know she finishes for the week at 16:30 so it might not be today that I’m able to get back to you but I will look to get some information over to you next week.

Last I heard Wembley is still in business – I was in contact with him a couple of months ago, he does re-cones and driver repairs and we refer people to him for drivers that we wouldn’t usually re-cone but I see what you mean about the website, seems that the domain has expired.

His email is paul@wembleyloudspeaker.com last I checked – but I’ll get back to you next week to see if there is anything we can advise or if we can assist with this one.
