Yup. It's completely beneath me. I want to live in a country in which our children design the machines and software that pick fruit. Not the thatcherite shithole were in where its 80% services (which, to be fair, means financial services which doesn't provide a service to anyone) and cafes. And we rely on polish tenants in buy to let's to supplement our dwindling pensions.
What’s stopping them designing and manufacturing such a device? There would be a string market for it. Why don’t they crack on?

Culture and infrastructure. We dont have a tesla and silicon valley in north london offering thousands of jobs. Stop passing the buck.
Edit - and stop voting for vapid toads like boris who exemplify our lack of culture, infrastructure and thinking

I reckon his strategy of dissuading Democrates voters to come out to vote won't work this time. Firstly, Biden is not calling Trump's voters deplorables/idiots but appeal to them to vote for better paid unionised jobs, secondly, Covid is now the main topic on TV, that put people off voting for Trump.
My guess is Biden will win 60% of the votes.
I agree Woosh Biden will win 60% of the votes, but Trump will become the next President plus he now has the sympathy vote to help him along. Risk your life to serve your country, he's a hero

No, you don’t need those things. If you take up the appropriate training and have talent you can design and manufacture useful products which will sell. I designed a machine which fed a foil tear off strip into cellophane wrapping. That made a nice little pay-day. I currently receive a royalty payment for gas turbine engine performance monitoring software I created. So, it can be done. Not so easy if you are sat on your arse doing Play Station and waiting to be discovered by Simon Cowle.

But gas turbines are not built by frustrated spotty adolescents in sheds. When you voted for brexit you killed of much of rolls Royce's business plan. That killed off opportunities for engineers making a living designing turbines. That's not my field. But I have received significant post doctoral training in the uk on the basis of its health service which provide infrastructure and culture in the way I mean. There isnt a substitute for working amongst experienced trained peers, teachers in an environment that's about developing skill, doing research.

But we are!. The range of products capable of doing these activities exist and I am proud that some of those graduates that I had a hand in educating are doing exactly that. But for everyone with the capacity for that type of work there are dozens who want to talk, more who want to sell stuff and ... And ... And .. and finally others who just cannot compete because of their own mental capacity, and this is the really ugly bit, the mental capacity of their parents. I have dealt with the heroism by the young under really trying circumstances ,so I totally reject the notion that the young are feckless. I can accept unguided, unformed and misslead.

That’s why no one takes any notice of you and why you will remain insignificant.

It’s always someone else’s fault. It’s not. People need to take responsibility for themselves. You included in that.

Don’t concern yourself about me. I’ve made money from property and other self generated income, it’s in the bank now. Current income is just a bonus and I’ll be out of it before your envy tax kicks in.

You keep your nose to the grindstone. You’ve got a long working career ahead of you, achieving nothing remarkable and paying for Covid.

We will always need people to man the pumps, press buttons and turn handles.

There is no shame in doing those jobs, but a culture has been created where they are perceived as being beneath us. I’ll give you that much.

I would be very surprised if you did more than me to support society and to help people. I find most lefties are all gob and activity. Very little in the way of actually doing tangible action. Me, I’m out there helping folks and presenting them with opportunities.
Opportunities to give you money......

No one has ever given me money and I’ve never asked anyone for money. On the other hand, I’ve given other people money and I’ve asked them if they need money. But I find giving them my time is better currency.

Let's not forget even Trump has been bankrupt more than once ! I know what it's like to have nothing but now I have everything, whether that makes me a better man or not I'm not so sure.

I hope you are right, but I am afraid you are forgetting the curious logic many people seem to apply to voting.

I'd find it worrying if 4.4% of Americans supported Trump, but he has 44% approval rating (or more depending where you look), and rising.

I agree Woosh Biden will win 60% of the votes, but Trump will become the next President
Both the highly distorted US voting system and the highly distorted UK one frequently create President/PM with fewer votes than the main rival; but I don't think either can create the 'wrong' winner with a 60/40 split.

It works like this ... if we have a competition on here to find out who is the most popular poster on this thread I'll win ! That's if my 3 votes are counted first and you only need 3 to be a winner, no one else's will count.
Trump will probably get re-elected but as with the last election his opponent will get more votes when they eventually get counted days later, by then too late. Crazy country, crazy system, crazy President.

In africa theres a joke that it's a very democratic place, but that elections take the form of coup d'etats. I think it's similar, many more will have to die from covid or the economy will need to tank much harder from its post Obama highs.
