Boris say (bbc news) "the response to the coronavirus shows the sheer might of the United kingdom". well beyond satire. or orwell's 1984's newspeak. Like Brexit uk's covid response must at least be "double plus ungood". would be hysterical (if the public didn't lap it up). Isnt that ******* strange? Ive become convinced we strayed into a parallel universe.
Its been Pythonesque surreal / farce for a few years with govt reaching ever higher levels of absurdity everyday.

This is fun, the Brexiteers are trying to set up a Co-op with the EU tomake a new fighter
When will they ever learn, yet another third world war fighter and as unnecessary as all the previous ones from the USA and Europe.

They just need to learn a lesson from the Russians with their SU32 and the way it rapidly dealt with the Syrian situation after months of futile action by the West there.

Maybe we could partner with Iran and jointly develop & build their plywood Stealth fighter on the cheap - esp as we have experience with the Mossie... We have world beating cabinet makers sitting around twiddling their thumbs and surplus horse glue (ever since the burger scandal) - so we could literally grow our own carbon friendly defence industry

Post-brexit, "Domestically-built" must mean UK.

It simply cannot mean what they claim:

Major defense contractor BAE System is leading development with the Royal Air Force, with Rolls Royce contributing engines, European firm MBDA integrating weapons, and Italian company Leonardo developing sensors and avionics.

Some of the comments on YouTube are pretty standard fare with deep understanding:

England will always be Great Britain to me. Im very impressed.

Where is Prospero when you need him?

Pilots in planes ......Pilots in air conditioned buildings thousands of miles away
has to be the future...until computers take over and kill us all.o_Oo_O
We need em to put on the carriers we can barely afford... which lead to warship cuts elsewhere

As the US is discovering using overkill super dooper stealthy jets to super accurately bomb terrorists is very expensive - so even they are investing in lower tech manned flight (i.e keeping A10s and looking at low-end support aircraft for its allies) - yet also developing new B-2 replacements and other advanced cutting edge concepts (hypersonic , distributed autonomous drone tech) to keep Russia & China and each other on their toes.

Open gob. Out pours...

UK coronavirus live: Johnson claims Covid crisis would have been 'disaster' for Scotland if it had been independent

As it is, it wasn't a disaster. Really, just a wander, or T, in the Park. (Oh dear - that disappeared after 2016. What a coincidence?)

Happened to see a couple of minutes of an old QI the other day. Mr Fry was explaining how human embryos develop from anus forward (some animals start with mouth). I do wonder if something went wrong in some individuals.

Added:

Johnson argues that, as part of the UK, Scotland effectively benefits from economies of scale. He claims that the “sheer heft of the UK national economy” meant that it could afford generous support for business (which is funded by borrowing) and he says:

It was the UK’s massive purchasing power that saw us secure millions of additional pieces of PPE for Scottish hospitals and millions of doses of promising vaccines.

How much greater the economies of scale of the EU? How much more heft has the EU? How many doses of vaccine have been delivered. (And I do mean outside trials.) And would England or rump-UK actually vaccinate its population and not send a single vial north of the border? Such decisions cut both ways.

(I see I wrote "rump-UK". Perhaps arse-UK would have been better?)

The polls are currently showing over 50% in Scotland in favour of independence from the UK.
Cue the blond bawbag to rush north in a panic to tell us how wonderful the Union has been to us and without the "broad shoulders" of the UK we couldn't have coped with the pandemic.
I reckon the polls will be up to 60% after that.

The opposition within Bucks was very, very strong. I had various contacts within some organisations, and they were fiercely opposed to HS2.

HS2 to hide tunnel vent shafts with 'country barns' in Chilterns
Rail project’s treatment of area contrasts with that of council estate in inner London
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/jul/23/hs2-to-hide-tunnel-vent-shafts-with-country-barns-in-chilterns

But I can't help being amused by the thought that this will make the HS2 ventilation shafts Barnier.

Foreold in 1960 movie H. G. Wells' The Time Machine' Where Chiltern residents played the Eloi...

George stops at October 12, 2025, near the base of a fake metal barn. He finds a group of delicate young men and women wearing simple clothing gathered at a stream. One woman, carried off by the current, screams for help, but her companions show no concern. George rescues her. She says her name is Weena and her people are the Eloi; they do not operate machines, work, or read, and know little of history. One of them takes George to a library, but when he tries to read a book, it crumbles to dust. Outraged, he decides to leave, but discovers that his machine has been dragged into the closed barn. Weena follows, telling him Morlocks, who only come out at night, are responsible. A hideous Morlock jumps out and tries to drag her away, but is blinded by George's torch.

The next day, Weena shows George domed structures that dot the landscape: air shafts that lead down to the Morlocks' home. She takes him to an ancient museum where "talking rings" tell of a war in the distant past between east and west that lasted 326 years (Brexit / Trump Vs China?). The atmosphere became so contaminated that it could no longer be safely breathed. Another ring describes humanity's struggle for survival; many decided to move underground, while some returned to the surface. George realizes this was the beginning of the speciation that resulted in the Morlocks and Eloi (Leavers & Remainers?). He starts to climb down a shaft, but stops when sirens emerge from the barn and blare. The Eloi, in a trance-like state, head for the now-open doors at the barn. The sirens stop and the doors close, trapping Weena and others inside.

George enters the caverns and discovers that the Eloi are food for the Morlocks. He finds Weena and fights off the creatures, finally inspiring the Eloi to defend themselves. George sets fires and urges the Eloi to climb back to the surface. He directs them to gather tree branches and drop them down the shafts. The resulting fires cause the caverns to collapse. Everyone lives happily after.

Well I can sign up to that (other than the fires and somewhat cheesy heroic American happy ending). Am sure leavers wont mind being eaten. Herd mentality, in every sense, must by now be second nature for them.

Well, the blond bawbag's visit to Scotland seemed to have missed most of Scotland, consisting of a quick visit to a secure RAF base at Lossiemouth and a wee trip up to Orkney looking for a big fridge.
Shame he didn't linger in Glasgow, Edinburgh, or Dundee to tell us how generous his government is with taxpayers' money and money borrowed on behalf of those taxpayers.

Oh well, as long as he's looking for a big fridge and not still thinking of building a big bridge to N.I. it could be worse. We had enough of his bridge ambitions in London, ending up with a £56 million invisible garden bridge and a cable car across the Thames that almost no Londoners use.
