Arrogant idiot:

Gove praised health secretary Matt Hancock’s “amazing success in increasing testing”, which he said means the public will have “greater confidence” in the government as they move into the next phase of lockdown.

I will have just as much, or (more likely) just as little confidence, as I determine is appropriate. Don't you dare suggest that you can or should tell me how much confidence I will have.

(Yes, and this is after having announced a number way below 100,000.)

No. What I said, and can be verified independently is that Wuhan hosted a military type Olympic games, restricted to members of different countries armed forces. The sports included all the standard stuff like boxing judo ,athletics, basketball, and more military activities .. marksmanship, parachuting gymnastics etc. The dates are consistent with the outbreak.
A 110 different countries, and 9000+ competitors took part including contingents from the USA of 172 athletes and of course coaches . It was a very big deal for Wuhan. Curiously the UK was one of the few major countries which did not participate. Even Ireland had a small group of 32.
Now these are serving soldiers. Where would you put your prize athletes? Say your middle weight boxers? Maybe someone you were hoping for Olympic Gold or Army Navy competition ?
A reasonable role is guard duty. What do they guard?. Post offices?, Embassies? Military installations and research establishment?
Your ignorance is matched only by your arrogance, so I will add this one to your list of apologies expected.
Have read your last 3 posts on these Games - i fail to see where you`re going with all this, maybe you can expand on your thinking of how this is tied into how the virus originated and how it was transmitted from Wuhan?
Ta.

I predicted that test numbers would peak then fall...

Gove speaks very fast but he just admitted the government produced 76,496 tests yesterday, you don't need to be Einstein to know this is below the 100,000 target
Being the weekend I don't suppose they could fiddle the figures by posting kits and calling them completed tests.

Even in the Express of all places trust in this government is low
"

Contact tracing app: Will you sign up to Government led coronavirus scheme? POLL
CORONAVIRUS cases are to be tracked by a Government-run app, but concerns have been raised concerns over privacy, with personal data such as an individuals location and giving details of whom they have come in contact with stored in the app. We're asking readers, would you sign up to the scheme?

And the result ... 53% said NO
And the reader comments were all against the idea, never mind 53%, no one trusts the government with their data

Indeed, it's most commonly military establishments and all "other ranks" take part in these guard duties. It can get serious too, a friend of mine in my army years was shot in the stomach guarding a very mundane army unit. That was by the IRA hoping to get access into the armoury for weapons.

@tommie

scientists have not yet found the natural reservoir for SARS-COV-2. The alternative is that it escaped from a laboratory but which one?
SARS-COV1 and hundreds of other viruses affecting human respiratory system are studied all over the world since the 80s when molecular biology enjoyed rapid progress thanks to computer technology.
Hundreds of labs are capable of making SARS-COV2.
It's not easy to say which one.

Forsooth! tis damned with faint praise they are !
As Ross said, we don't do much dirty work down here. We even import people to pick veg and fruit for us. I'm surprised Kent didn't bring in foreign miners to dig the coal out, they now bring in Eastern Europeans to pick hops, though most of our hops we import now from Eastern Europe. Saves importing the pickers!

Many online sellers do almost exactly that. They take your order, and put the package in the "to go" (or "to be picked up") pile and tick the "Sent" box.

A tiny bit annoying at times but if done without malice and simply as a convenince, fair enough.

I would be at all surprised if simply putting the address label onto the test package could be counted as "sent".
