Brexit, for once some facts.

I don’t know how anyone could be convinced that a face mask does not off any protection from cross infection.

I think the policy of not wearing face masks will have been derived as follows:

Q. How many face masks can we get?

A. About five million.

Q. How many would we need for everyone to wear them

A. About one hundred million.

Policy: Do not recommend the wearing of face masks.

Like PPE guidelines, it’s been worked backwards from what they can scrape together in a chaotic panic.
Your favourite mayor Sadiq Khan is strongly backing your stance on face masks and arguing against the government on this issue. He wants some compulsion on wearing face masks.

He's also extended the trial on bus driver safety. From Monday all passengers must enter London buses via the middle door to leave the space ahead to the driver empty. This means all London bus use is free during the virus crisis, a sensible measure.

I listened to him on LBC this morning and was impressed. I agreed with all he was saying and he was very direct with his answers. Fair play to him.

Right or wrong, I very much get the feeling that he is trying the best he can. That he really wants to do the right things and will push as hard as he is able to do them.

Feelings that are utterly absent from the government.

I couldn’t watch today. That voice. Those cliches. That trotting out of that tired old script. That sense that they expect a round it applause for how well they’re doing. Quote Tweet

@campbellclaret Un- bloody-believable. Not a single journo challenged Sharma at the presser on the amazing admission UK effectively out of full length PPE gowns. What goes on? Incredible omission. Amateur hour.

They may as well stop these sessions as a complete waste of time I suspect many people have given up on them as the apathy and confusion the government displays can seriously endanger one's will to live

The point is we, the press, failed the public. There was a 2 week critical window in which if govt had acted sooner, far far fewer people would have died. We failed to hold govt to account. And we are failing again now. There’s still no plan to test. NHS workers are still dying.

I’d have respect for the government if they admitted they got it wrong, misjudged the Coronavirus and delayed too long. I think I could just about forgive them that, this is an unprecedented situation the likes of which has never been seen before.

All the BS and denial makes me think they will never get on top of the situation. The first stage of improvement is admitting where you went wrong and addressing it. These clowns are in a perpetual state of denial. It’s pathetic.

In WW2, for example, lies were a necessary part of the propaganda - after all, Germany was listening in and all too well aware.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus is not sentient. You don't need to mislead and misdirect it.

Just why is the government unable to open its mouth without a torrent of trite garbage, utterly unconvincing lies and seeming lack of any understanding that their audience has zero faith. We do not believe them.

I ask you, if you were the family of the unacknowledged NHS staff who have died, what extra torture are you going through by their deaths being denied?

A GP and a clinical support worker have become the latest NHS staff members to die after contracting coronavirus.

Jane Murphy, 73, worked at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for almost 30 years, first as a cleaner before she retrained as a clinical support worker. Tributes from colleagues hailed her as a mentor and lifelong friend.

Dr Krishan Arora, 57, worked at the Violet Lane medical practice in Croydon, south London, for 27 years. Croydon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) confirmed he had died after testing positive for Covid-19, adding that he was not at work in the time before he died.

The UK health secretary, Matt Hancock, said the governmenthad identified 27 NHS workers who had died after contracting coronavirus, but the true total is thought to be significantly higher.

The Guardian knows of at least 58 private and NHS healthcare staff who have died from coronavirus. The government has come under growing pressure over shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) in healthcare settings as the death toll among frontline workers has risen.

Meanwhile in the US of A Trump mid pandemic is inciting his base in States to revolt against lockdown measures

This could get interesting....

I don't half hate myself for some of the thoughts this whole thing makes me go through.

Part of me wants them to socially contact and suffer the results. Leaving those others who are left to, umm, inherit the earth, or whatever. If anyone else said it, that would be unacceptably nasty.

That candour has been the most refreshing part of the Irish Government handling of this so far. However I am now starting to pick a defensive vibe regarding Nursing Homes . It is evident that this one slipped below the collective radar, and they hoped rather than ensured these older vulnerable people were protected. 45% of our 500 deaths have been in care homes, with CV19 infections now in about 30% of them.
